To not muck up that thread with my noob question I started this one.

I ordered wr46 with no holes. Does this mean I don't need any rim tape?



This is my first tubeless tire. From amazon I see the gp5000 tires I like I have to order them in tubelss form.

When I go to place my order on amazon recommends these two other things.

Should I just order those two things or is there a better product I should get instead ?

Your images says TAPE01 25mm so it either comes with or needs rim tape.

I just bought it because it was cheap enough that if I did need I would have it on hand. I have two other sets or rims that I can use it on in the future.

Should I buy the other stuff that amazon recommended?

Stan's is pretty much used at most shops.

$12 for an injector, not gonna find one much cheaper.

I recommend Orange Seal instead of Stan’s sealant. Can you confirm with them that the the included valve stems are tubeless as well?

I saved one of the small single use containers that had a nozzle that fit into the valve tube and just use that, but I could spend 12 bucks for that injector.

Don't tubes come with the stems attached? So it's safe to assume stems only are fir tubeless.

DO NOT GO ROAD TUBELESS , there is no point to road tubeless , you have no ability to deal with the problems that you will face , save yourself the time and money and just get some regular gp5ks and high quality latex tubes !

Get the injector. Skip the Stan's, get Orange Seal instead.

One note on the injector: some valve stems won't pass the 3mm hard plastic tube all of the way through - many have a little tight spot inside where it'll bind - so if you can't get it all the way in, try another set. The alloy ones from Muc-Off will definitely work, if you're having trouble finding some locally.

I have 2 bikes one uses tubes and the other is tubeless.

The tubeless bike is my winter and foul weather bike. It has 32mm Bontrager AWS tires. I have over 6000 miles on it over 3 winters and have had 0 punctures. I do carry a tube and tire levers, but the thought of dealing with the mess of sealant, trying to get a tube inside in 30* weather and possible rain does not excite me. So I might call Uber or AAA to get me home. I generally don't wander more than 10 miles away in those conditions. So I can get 40 miles in and never be more than 10 miles away.

From talking to others they've has similar good results with many trouble free miles. Since my Zipp 303s are not TLR i'll continue using tubes until they are replaced, but I have no plans at the moment.

I would not use Stan's sealant. Orange Seal Endurance is a much better choice.

The wheelset he ordered doesn't require tape. A friend is using those hoops(set up tubeless) and they work fine without tape.

I saw it on his order but the OP has contacted customer service and they confirmed it's not needed and is refunding his purchase.

Personally when it comes to questions about a specific product, I like to talk to the manufacturer over some anonymous people in the interweb if possible. Better to hear it from the horse's mouth than the other end of the animal

But then there are some vendors that do not have direct support to the end user.

Tape is to seal spoke holes. Without spoke holes, as indicated on his invoice, there's no need for tape. Sure, it's nice to have confirmation on some things, but there's also logic and common sense.

Agreed, but then why was tape included in the order. Was it a mistake by the customer or the vendor? If the vendor i'd question if it's really needed.

Years ago i bought a new chain online and the website said I needed a quicklink also. When package arrived I opened it to find the chain comes with a quicklink inside. Not a problem since I would use it when I R&R the chain to do a deep clean... but I didn't need it.

When ordering wheels from LB, they give you the option of including tape and valves for all their wheels, and the option is still there even if you select hoops that have no holes in the rim bed.

OP, congrats on the new wheels! Seems like all your questions have been answered but I’ll just chime in that with over 6 years on road tubeless and about 4 of those being exclusive that I’ve tried pretty much all the variations of sealant and Orange has definitely been the best for me so far. With Bontrager coming in close behind. I’ve never used an injector before since I’ve just kept the cap and tube that comes with a previous small bottle but anything that makes it quick and clean is a plus in my books.
