I had a close encounter with a bus in New York yesterday. Not sure why it was so important for the bus driver to pass me so it can stop 10 feet away to pick up passengers, but of course when i asked for his badge number he said i didn't see you. Lucky for me i had a action cam.

I wonder what legitimate reason made you "hard to see."

Legitimate or illegimately, it doesn't matter in any real sense. That would be an issue for those later charged with assigning responsibility.

As a rider, you need to focus on the here and now. You're sharing the road with countless other vehicles, any of which may be piloted by an ignorant, distracted, indifferent, capricious, callous or even malicious driver.

YOUR responsibility is to be aware and anticipate what they MAY do, not what they should do. YOU need to anticipate any possibility, react accordingly, and (hopefully) avoid a collision.

FWIW I started this thread, not to excuse drivers who don't see us, but to make cyclists aware of the.problem, so they may be more prepared to deal with the consequences.
