Garmin | Favorite Data Fields
I started this thread a while ago talking about my favorite Connect IQ data field: https://www.bikeforums.net/general-c...live-wind.html
That's been my one of a small number of Connect IQ item I've used and kept. I'm interest to hear if others have found useful tools on Garmin IQ. Please share any of your favorite data fields or apps (or crappy ones). For reference, I'm riding with an Edge 1040 Solar
Here are two others I like/use:
My Bike Radar Traffic: If you use the Garmin Varia, this app/data field captures vehicle count, approach speed, absolute speed. I dream that some day this data will be used for larger purposes, but for now it is kinda interesting stuff: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/c...d-c3b871e9e733
Ray has a great video on this app:
MapDashboard 4 field version (large font): I just found this one and it's great! Garmin allows data fields on the map page, but they take too much space making the map harder to read. There are different options, I use the 4 field option 'cause I have old eyes and can't see tiny numbers: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/8...f-9f10113b5276
Shane got me into this one:

For road I have speed, cadence, distance, time of day and temperature.
For mountain I have Distance, time of day and temperature.
I find too many data fields to look at would be distracting and may result in a crash.

If I were to use that, I'd opt for My Bike Radar Traffic, GPS, MPH, Temp for the most part.

I default to full screen time of day, but I have multiple screens set up. I prefer a few related items on each.
The main reason I have it is for a radar head unit and to record the ride.

I use that Garmin Varia My Bike Radar Traffic data field too (on a secondary page) so if I feel like it, I can scroll across and see car count and last car passing speed. Interesting at times.
Apart from that, I don't use any other IQ widgets, just the usual speed/distance/time and power metrics. 🙂

My mechanical geared bike doesn't have gear combo.

On my dead 1030, my favorite field was "Distance to Next", it would tell me consistently and precisely how far to the next turn on the loaded course (brevets) but not so much on the 1040. Temperature is my 2nd most fav field.
