Ti-Cable Stop brazed to Steel Frame
Nova Cycle Supplies is going out of business. So they don't have much in the way of inventory.
I need a couple of cable stops (or cable guides....) for my Allez-Castrophe' project. So I was going to Si-braze a couple of cable stop on the top tube, where they belong. Nova only has Ti-cable stops on hand.
Is there a reason I should not silver braze Ti-stops to a steel frame? I'm thinking I'm basically using the Si-braze as super-duper glue. A cable stop is not a real high stress application. Can't imagine MAP gas can compromise titanium.... and it's a cable stop.

It's not going to work as a practical matter. It has been done though, back before people figured out GTAW and stopped trying to join steel to Ti.
Did you look at Paragon?
Bike fab supply is another option.

I'll probably get 5 or the min order of these.
I thought Paragon was all titanium bits? Did I get that wrong? They seemed pricey (to me, for the bodging I do).
I also looked at Ceeway, but importing bits is a bit expensive.

Paragon makes parts in steel, stainless, and ti. They don't always have every part in stock, sometimes they have to make them and you have to wait. I suppose a product from a machine shop is going to always be more expensive than mass produced parts from Asia

Sounds like your technical question was answered. Keep checking in on Nova, word on the street is that they have been purchased by someone who wants it to be what it used to be. They are local to me and this makes me quite happy.

I think I checked their website. $2.50 for a bag of 10 cable stop - seems very reasonable. I was going to go with cable guided, but today I convinced myself to go with stops so I can get higher tension in the system.
I was riding my '84 Trek 420 (with guides), and I'm thinking, that rear bake sure has lots of squish......
Hopefully get the trigger pulled tomorrow. I'd like to get this bike rolling by August.
