I need to sharpen our knives. They're crappy knives, but I should at least sharpen them anyway. I really want to get us a nice set eventually, my wife cooks a lot. It's just overwhelming and really expensive.

The thing that you have to remember about most of those things re: kitchenware is that you buy once and rip the bandaid off. If you get good stuff it'll legit last decades.

Man, I forgot we used to (maybe folks still are, I don't keep up with racing results) use the Glengarry Glen Ross scale of winning around here.

I am not adept at things that require a precise touch. Be it small bolts or sharpening knives.

I've never gotten the hang of using a steel, so I just have small little knife sharpener thing that I run them through a few times every once in a while. It helps some.

At least I know how to use the software.
I have a lot of knives. I just learned there were places to post about that.
These are new this week. I can shave with any but the cleaver.
I have the third from the left, wife gave it to me as a gift. I don't know a ton about knives but I enjoy using it and try to keep it sharpened with a combo whetstone I got off amazon

We don't need too many because we're veggie eaters, but I do want something I can slice with where the slice doesn't stick to the blade.

Liz has helped us acquire a bunch of Misen products. We started with the kickstarter chef's knife, and now have several more knives and even some pans. I'm no expert at this, but it seems like nice stuff.

I have a whetstone. These are pretty sharp now. I polished a couple up and they are "sharper" and cut paper better, but lost serrated aspect of a slightly burred knife.

I just emailed a guy who posted in 2013 to see if the service still exists. He puts a razor edge on them for not much money. Not that I need a razor edge, but I want one. Traditional Sharpening Services | BladeForums.com

This seems to be a new area. See Global SAI knives (I just ordered one ... yea, I need help). The idea is the sides are dimpled to not stick to food. That said I can cut cheese pretty well with these. Avos still stick.

Something like that sounds good. I have issues mostly with things like cucumber or zucchini

Update on the cracked frame saga.

First, here are some pictures of the crack and the bike. At first I thought it was a scratch in the paint, but pressing the dropouts together made it move so...

Here are some pictures of it new frameset! Dropped off some Kanes head high for the seller as well.

Unfortunately the fork has an AL steerer vs the full carbon older one. It also didn't come with a headset or compression plug etc. I'm actually going to try to reuse the old fork and headset with things here and from my cursory reading, I think they should be compatible. The old fork is obviously a different color. If I go through with things, I might take it off next summer, sand it down, and have it painted either black or orange.

In the grand scheme of things, I think this worked out pretty well. Thankful to the seller for being stand up. I think I'm going to end up a bit more out of pocket than I'd hoped, but I'm going to end up with a better bike overall imho.

Looking forward to getting the build going! Crossing my fingers I can have it done this week though I'll need to drop it off at the shop to have the rear brake line swapped over.

My first road bike, the mid 90's raleigh with 8 speed 105 I picked up from a coworker in 2014, is up on craigslist for $350, was funny to see it looking pretty much the same as it did when I sold it a couple of years back. While I arguably made a lateral move with my Allez, which has Claris, the geometry and I suppose the carbon fork were upgrades for me. anyhow, it was fun trip down memory lane with my first entry into road bikes

Here's on I think some will appreciate, probably Doge

This is what happens to a bedroom when your kid is a geeky audio engineer (he works for an 8th time grammy winning engineer), and moves home because everyone is remote during a pandemic.
