Addiction 2021.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My 172 got struck by lightening while flying south of Vegas. Didn’t hear a boom or even see a flash, just heard a huge electrical like sound outside the airplane and then lost all avionics. Batteries were fried, everything went dark. Needles airfield also got struck by lightening and it caused the lights to get stuck on.

The cockpit is about a decade old. The laptop is a 7 year old CAD machine with 4th generation i7 and a Quadro FX GPU. The only games on the computer are; Grand Prix Legends (circa 1998), Il-2 1946 (circa 2006), and Zwift. I don’t remember the last time I used the computer for anything other that Zwift, so I wonder why I keep it there and lug it to the garage almost daily for Zwift.

I do want to try the new generation mid-century flight sims and a racing sim or two with VR, though. Hence the hand wringing over newer GPUs.
Woah, Il-2, I remember that one. I don't even know where my joystick is these days, though

Oh yeah? The whole cannon, or just the barrel? I think I'm the only one who has thought this through.

The new cx bike got new tires today, cleaned and waxed the chain. Removed the cassette and cleaned that and the hub. It is a cx bike, sand in everything. No grit in the bearings though. I put a bottle cage on it and a pump , seat bag with a couple tubes in it. I had to repair the rear derailuer, the adjustment barrel was broken..... $16.00 🤯 but at least I could get the part. Tomorrow I am going to rewrap the bars .

Pretty sure they are probably black powder so they are legal to own. They explained the legalities on an episode of pawn starz I saw. And if he fired them they're probably complete.

“Era.”

You can get old cannons if you want to pay the price. They are pretty easy to find online.

Future SIL’s family roots are in Texas since the Wild West days. When we were at his parents for Christmas Eve, I had a nice discussion with his dad about a collection of 19th century flintlocks hanging on their wall that have been in the family for generations.

When I used to travel for work. The southwest airplane I was on got hit by lightening. ( can't remember what type of aircraft it was) lit up the whole plane, a sizzling boom. The pilot came on the intercom and apologized, I thought that was hilarious at the time.

I’m keeping my X45 under wraps lest it goes victim to two running cats and/or two fighting kids.

Woke up to rain.

Suppose to stop soon, but due to increase chances of not staying on my bike, I will have to wait for the roads to dry.

Other news, my fat person castelli jersey arrives today!
