I met Mary on The Track. She was stuggling to finish the last 10 miles of Her First 100 mile ride.
She drafed behind me and completed the 100.

There are more women on the organized club ride that ive gone on than the renegade groups, maybe because its more social and has more hills? Plenty of them could keep up on the slower days but maybe they are intimidated
You answered your own question--if you ask and she says "yes", no problem. If she had said no or not been asked and you drafted her, I suspect she'd have a very different read on your intentions. Probably a good way to end up with a face full of mace.

Doubtful, she is cat 2 and had heard about me from a friend, she told me if I passed her she would try her hardest to pass me back (as it should be..)

certain roads around here have tons of cyclists so small pacelines and friendly competitions happen all the time, its pretty cool TBH.

She knew who you were, and you asked her permission. She said yes. What's your point with this story? Cat 2 or not, if she had said "no" and you tried anyway, I don't think this would've been a friendly encounter.

Honest question--can you draft a DD bike behind a recumbent? I ask because I've never seen that.

I'd like to actually learn SOMETHING from this thread.

A friend drafts me when I am on my bent, he said he gets about as much draft as following his 8 year old.

We measured a 40 watt drop. IIRC, it was 230 watts vs 190 watts on my wheel. It was a brevet, so, we were only doing about 20-21 mph.

They are usually happy to have an unknown guy along as long as you spend some time explaining how their bike works and give them technique advice. And if you throw in some anecdotes about how awesome a rider you are, they will feel lucky to be riding with you.

Bear in mind that women are also harrassed literally everywhere and pretty much constantly. Don't add to it and put people off cycling.

If they want friendly competition it'll be pretty obvious when you pass at a respectful distance.

You only say that because you haven't seen yourself from that angle. Here's a suggestion - pull up your gym shorts, dude.
