Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nearest weather station to the TT this morning. So stupid. If I wasn't there already, I would have packed it in. 45 deep rims on the TT bike, and it still made it an adventure I would just as soon never do again. Gusts in the 40's. Cross tail, then cross head.

I meant the brake rub was unpredictable, not the bike handling.

My truck was clean until I opened the door. You couldn't do one thing without taking the wind into account. One door at a time open. Don't set anything down unless it weighed 5 pounds, stuff like that. I sprayed glue on my number, thought it was secure... Good thing my number had glue, because it stuck to my truck the minute I looked away. Who knows where it would have ended up otherwise.

Rack install of the day. After 20 fooling around with too-small p-clamps, decided to put the rails in the bench vise and put 90° bends in 'em.

Where’s Velo? He’d know how to address that.

Totally badass.

When you rent a car in Iceland, they warn you not to open the doors with the wind astern.

Were you at Pawnee National Grassland?

Incidentally, how often do they mow the grass there?

5 miles from the Wyoming border. We do an out and back along the frontage road of I-25. It's called the Frostbite TT, because it's usually at the beginning of March. It got snowed out... Go figure.

I think they use buffalo to mow the grass, or something.

I was thinking of doing a solo climbing ride and club #2 was going in the direction I wanted to go. Figured I could start with them but ended up turning around with them and riding most of the way back until I turned off and did a little more climbing. Pretty good day. It's fun going fast in a group for miles.

Good news! My spokes came today!
Bad news I snapped a nipple off flush to the Rim, FML! 2 weeks for a 7mm reverse tap to get here so I can clear out the old nipple. I was so close! Damnit.

How long are you there for?

If you have another day, you really head south on the BRP (cycling or driving). The section between Mount Pisgah and Waterrock Knob is very scenic (Velo Vol approved). The climb up 215 from the valley (north side) to the BRP is great.

When I've had those "pinched nerve" type pains they take a few days to go away. Heat helps but doesn't fix it.
