So what's with the new format?

Why do I get sent to trending?

I have no interest what is trending!
Is facebook leaking into the time honored BF?
What's with the overhaul?

Thanks for asking. I thought it was just happening to me. I despise it.

Ditto for me. it reminds me of how everyone adopted Apple's method of displaying emails (everything related to an original email is put under that e-mail) and the generic 'one-type-of-font / no highlighting allowed' display that makes finding a specific email by date a PITA.

Lucky for me I've never been on Facebook (or is it 'Failbook'?).

Does anyone know where to book a call-girl during an up-coming middle east vacation?

...I'm flattered by the repeated efforts that seem to value me as a customer, while at the same time I'm puzzled why anyone would suppose I have the resources required for travel to Dubai any more. I was reading some story in the National Review about San Francisco, and even though I thought I knew that city, I'm now afraid to go there.

I blame all the $10,000 road bikes for this. Someone has gotten the mistaken impression that cyclists are all rolling in dough.

I guess that’s why it is posted in General Cycling Discussion and not Bicycle Mechanics.

Well, if they post there, they get screamed at for not posting a photo of the problematic part, and, well, they have to get 10 posts before they can, because, well, spammers might otherwise get a foot-hold.

I also dislike the new format. It take more steps/actions to be able to get the the desired forum.

I live in Dubai and relayed to the monitor the problem of all the call girl postings, but have seen no corrective action to date.

The forum owners have found that the trending page increases engagement so it's here to stay. Turning it off was supposed to be a user option that didn't get implemented before the rollout. That's in the works.

I have deleted a couple hundred of the threads and banned the people that posted them and other mods have done the same. I would call that a corrective action. Not sure what else we can do since they aren't posting links. The site owners are working on a tech fix for it, but that isn't instantaneous. Those of us deleting the threads aren't paid and have other things to do than sit around and ban spammers all day.
These guys will eventually get tired of spamming this forum since their posts only stay up a few hours at the most and are gone in the minute if one of us is watching.

The spam bots were really bad, the new format is worse.

OK, so let's take this as an opportunity for a parlor game--finding the funniest labeling of a "trending topic". This thread was trending despite the fact that it was closed in 2018: https://www.bikeforums.net/general-c...le-dogs-4.html

Gotta say, I'm pretty sure the main effect of the format change is to make your job harder. I also think we owe the mods a sincere thanks for dealing with the new call girl spambot attacks. It seems to be a pretty sophisticated system of getting around the 5 post limit by automating the creation of new accounts and posting five different posts on the same account. Cleaning it up "by hand" has got to be a dreary task, and you guys are literally doing better with it than anyone would fairly expect, especially when you aren't being paid.

It's not too bad, just clicking some check boxes. But it is embarrassing when there are 2 full pages of those threads before anyone deals with it. After I banned someone inadvertently it's a bit more stressful.

I just got one of the spammers before they managed to post 5 threads, so that's always a good feeling. I'm curious how they get paid and what I can do to keep that from happening.

on edit: in the time I took to write this another one posted 5 threads. PITA

You only see the Trending page if you go the Bike Forums home page..... If you go straight to the Forums page you won't have to see Trending at all.

The forums page is a misnomer, you don't see all the categories. Granted, the main subforums are in there. There are 6 total top level categories if I can count that high.

I just got a spammer after posting only 3 out of his 5 threads. Simple pleasures. On edit: got one after 1, I must admit I'm happier about that than I should be.

On edit: I want to go do something so you might see some spammers in here for a while, sorry about that. Anybody want to text me if a spammer shows up my number is 05067214567
Kidding, I copied that number from one of the spam threads.

That upgrade and the format change are all my fault. My membership lapsed because my credit card got hacked and Paypal couldn't bill me when the automatic renewal rolled around. Sorry, folks.

Ive been on this forum a long time. Im grateful that it is available. People have always been patient with my dumb questions over the years. There are other sites in which it seems like people lurk 24/7 and pounce on anything you post with endless ridicule. I'll adapt to the changes.
