Yes, Bridgestone was making "Schwinn Approved" bikes going back at least to 1974 with the Le Tour. I recently spruced up a 1975 Le Tour, it's now on my local CL. Remarkably light (30 lb) for what is usually dismissed as a "gas pipe" Schwinn with steel wheels. (Goes without saying, it's still no Paramount.)

Raleigh SuperCourse - $1,100 (los gatos)

Bought in '72. One of the first ChromeMoly? Frames in 501. Bought to ride to Graduate School then put on a stand and not driven since. Great for a collector. Has the original tires.

Is it just me.....

See attached photo. Maybe because I at one time made a living as a photographer, and ended up working for a retailer that did all of its selling via eBay, but I'm a real snob about how a bicycle should appear in a photograph (other than the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Commandment: DRIVE SIDE OUT). See attached photo. Don't you think adjusting the saddle height would make a more appealing photo (and drive side out)? I don't know why seeing a bike in an ad like this bothers me so much. Okay, pile on.

This one's a tame example compared to most bad photos. Wrong side, cut off, slight downward angle, that's just getting started. It usually gets much worse:
* STEEP downward angle - like standing RIGHT over the bike. Looks like a map site aerial view close-up
* Way too close, zoomed way out, extreme perspective distortion. Bike appears bent, no way to judge frame angles, etc
* No full-bike shot at all in the ad
* Bike lying flat on ground. I'm always tempted to go and draw a chalk line around it
* Focus on the background / ground, subject way out of focus. There's a button for that, folks
* (Symptom of the modern "I can really use my toy walkie-talkie to take real photos" plague) Vertical shots of an obviously horizontal subject. Subject bike becomes not much more than a speck in the middle of the frame

BTW, even with the downward angle and distortion of the above shot, it still looks like.... (wait for it......) fork's bent.

If you want a deep-dive into mind-numbingly bad sale item photography (and you have the stomach for it), head over to OfferUp.

Record price for Super Record derailleur

$3200 for a Super Record rear derailleur! The one picture seems to even show road rash.

eBay listing title: "SHIMANO ULTEGRA 600 Bottom Bracket. BB-7400, Early 80s, 113mm, ENG cups, NOS NEW"

Price is extremely good. But I see a couple of issues:

1. BB-7400 is Dura Ace, not Ultegra.
2. Spindle is clearly marked "YST", not Shimano. It's also not marked "BB-7400".
3. BB cups are not marked BB-7400.
4. Don't think the bearing balls and retainers are original (conventional 9-ball vice 11-ball "flying saucer look-alike" retainers Shimano used at that time in high end BBs).

Parts all do appear new, and the cups and lockring do look rather like 600 parts. But the rest . . . well, caveat emptor.

Listed on CL as "Old Schwinn Bike-$50"
Yea , I check the ads frequently and ended up driving almost 30 minutes to get it. On close inspection of the picture I saw a set of Super Champion 700c wheels laced to , what appeared to be Campgnolo Record HF hubs. A gamble , I know , but when I got there I was partially right. The hubs turned out to be Superbe , and after a day of cleaning up and tuning , the wheels are very nice. I still haven't gotten everything I want off the (not)Schwinn bike . It will be donated to the co-op as a frame with extras.

I thought the seller was high when making this advert. Then I saw the profile pic. and realized he must be trying to make up for the money he lost in his "investment."
