Would any of you care to offer up your opinions if given the choice between the Roval C38 and the new Terra C ?
From what I can gather, I’m not seeing much difference other than the C38’s are a bit narrower. Spec’s I’m seeing say one is 1600 grams while the other is 1610 so nothing to be found there.
Application would be a gravel bike that is used nearly exclusively as a road bike with 32c tubeless tires.

Did find one difference, the C38’s have DT Swiss 350 hubs while the Terra C’s have 370.

The Terra C is targeted more at gravel riding, with rims that have 25mm internal diameter and 32mm depth; the C38 seems more for road (or 'all road') riding with rims that have 21mm internal diameter and 38mm depth. Also, the DT 350 hubs are nicer than the 370, which is probably why the C38 costs a little more money.

Short answer: if you're mostly on pavement with a little bit of smooth dirt roads, get the C38; for gravel, get the Terra C. (Too bad you didn't ask this question about a week ago, when the Terra C was on sale.)

Upgrade pick is the Terra CL, which shaves a lot of weight -- mostly from the rims, which is good.

I’ve got over 12,000 miles on a pair of C38s on my Roubaix and another 12,000 miles on a pair of Terra CLXs on my Creo. There’s no ride difference that I can tell. Both roll great and are smooth. Both are awesome wheelsets.

The difference is in the width. On the C38s I’ve run 28-32mm tubeless tires. All are pretty easy to mount. On the Terra CLXs, mounting a 28mm GP5000TL was nearly impossible. I’ve installed 32, 34 and 38mm tires on the Terra CLXs. It’s like 32mm is the new 28mm with these wheels.

I chose to order custom wheels from BTLOS. Delivery took about 30 days. I went with 25mm internal width hookless rims that require no rim tape. Rim depth can be 29-44mm. I found my 45mm ZIPP 303s wheels to be too deep for some gusty winds, so I went down to only 29mm deep profile. They only weigh 1400 grams and cost under $800. I have the Terra CLX on my commuter / gravel / touring bike. About a year and no issues with them. I had to go with the DT 350 hubs because I have an Ekar group set.

At first I had Marathon Allroad on there. Now I have 45Nrth Gravdal. Both mounted tubeless. No problems with mounting or inflation, but I do use a 11 CFM compressor.

I think those hubs are DT Swiss, but they're not 350s. I think the internals are from the 240s or even the 180.

Out of those two choices (and those two only) I would pick the one with the DT Swiss 350 hubs. There is a standout choice in this category that is both lighter and less expensive, but alas… you didn’t ask…

My mistake. My wheels are the CL. The CLX use a hub from the DT / Specialized product cheapening department. The CL use the 350, thus I could get a set that worked with Ekar.

Yeah, the CL has a DT 350 hub, but the CLX actually has a better caliber of DTS hub. That's why it's more expensive.

Sorry to be so persnickety about this, but I've been researching those wheels lately...The FedEx person will be delivering my Terra CL wheelset today. Glad to see that you're happy with yours.

OK. I looked online and saw the CLX at $1100 https://rovalcomponents.com/products/terra-clx and the CL at $1750 https://rovalcomponents.com/products/terra-cl. I just know that I needed the hub that supported the Campagnolo N3W for the Ekar. If I could have used the CLX I would have. Value engineering / Product Cheapening doesn't always make things lower quality. Sometimes the bean counters make a product better.

I have been enjoying the Commute/Touring/Gravel bike a lot. It was even going on 15 MPH or slower road group rides.

$1100 is for the CLX front wheel; the rear wheel is $1400. The CL wheelset is $1750. In other words, the CLX is the upgrade. It's also discontinued and unavailable, so it's all moot.

I'm happy with the CL, as I like the DTS 350 hubs on my other wheels. Over 13k miles in the past four years and they still run perfectly. You can spend a lot more money for not much more quality.
