You straddle a saddle, but you sit in a seat.

"Rattle" might have worked in the "Daisy's Retort" portion of the song:

Michael, Micheal, here is your answer true.
I’m not crazy all for the love of you.
There won’t be any marriage,
If you can’t afford a carriage.
‘Cause I’ll be switched,
If I get hitched,
On a bicycle built for two!”

All I can hear in my head now is HAL9000 singing "Daisy". I shoulda left this thread to its own devices.

That's SEO (search engine optimization) at work. Overly long and repetitive when you see it on the page, but entirely intentional and catches them search hits for a variety of terms.

You absolutely nailed it. I reread it after your post and it's got every single buzzword they could think of.

Long thread. Not reading it.

Saddles cost more than seats.

But good luck finding a saddle post to mount your saddle on. Or a saddle tube to put your saddle post in.

I don't think these terms are synonyms. "Saddle" is just more specific--it's a type of seat that you straddle.

Just came across a post in an old thread that included a photo of an old Holdsworthy Co. ad touting the Alan aluminum frames that they were importing: they referred to the frame as requiring a custom Campagnolo "saddle stem" to fit the frame's "saddle cluster."

No saddles on recumbent bikes.

On a DF, the terms are interchangeable.

Now there's a really weird use of the word "cluster".

Pretty common usage at one time. I used to read about seat/saddle clusters and bottom bracket clusters all the time.
