Anybody put some miles on it?

I’m about to write my letter to Santa. Also in the running were a B17 Special, a Bertoud Aspin, and a new Team Pro replacing my current well tensioned and laced Team Pro. It will go on whichever bike is my high mileage long ride bike at the time.

I bought one of the leather VO examples a while ago, thinner leather with a fiber reinforcement underneath. I have to decide how to break it in, it is drum head hard.
I've had two - I just got on and rode. They weren't very good new or after some riding.

Sorry, that was vague! I meant two VO saddles, neither very good.

I’ve had a bunch of Selle AnAtomica, and I like those!

No worries RF. It turns out that one of Santa’s elves is named Katia.

My saddle arrived a couple days ago. I took it out this morning for 15 miles and it feels great. The aggressive leather was a good choice for me. (Concors are my favorite. But I like my Brooks Pro, and the C17 while Turbos don’t bother me.) There is very little fore and aft adjustment if that is important.

When times get tough, you can eat a leather saddle.

...try that with Cambium and you'll break a tooth.

From their homepage, FAQ:
  • What's the serial number mean?

The serial number allows us to identify the exact specification of the leather of your saddle.
The first four digits correspond to the year and month of receipt of the croupon (2001 for January 2020).
The next two digits are the croupon number for that month. (2001-03 for the third croupon received in January)
The last two digits correspond to the cutting plan: In most cases 07 will correspond to a strong part, 03 to a soft part.
So 2001-0307 is the saddle cut from a strong part of the 3rd croupon received in January 2020.

Probably not, as the aluminum girder saddles are less comfortable.
Any idea why? Presumed that a steel rail is more flexible? Not that I give a whit about comfort...
I know this conversation is over a year old, but....

I believe the problem with the aluminum rail saddles is that due to the shape of the rail, there is no vertical flexibility. All the flexibility that those saddles have, which isn't much, is sideways. To give them some vertical flexibility, sometimes they put a big spring between the nose hardware and the aluminum frame, but I don't know if it does any good.

The main advantage of an aluminum saddle, you would think, is that it's lighter than steel. But the weight savings is minimal.

Some of the Ideale saddles have aluminum cantle plate and even aluminum nose pieces. Aluminum cantle plates are more prone to breakage than steel, aside from which aluminum and leather do not get along; leather is acidic by nature, and aluminum is not very resistant to acid. As long as the saddle stays perfectly dry, it's pretty stable, but if the leather gets wet, the aluminum starts to oxidize.

I was just reviewing the idealé website.
the natural color reminds me of an art. 80
from the mid 70's.
I owned a 90 bought new in 1972 that was a cognac color to begin with.
I assume they have not geared up for that yet or not in the plan.
I have a sister to my original bike now, same make, model and even import batch. A better size than original. A Honey pre-softened brooks is a placeholder at the moment. It is very close in color but wrong brand.
bike receives a lot of compliments- it "looks" like a vintage bike to many even if they do not know the brand.

Back to new Ideale saddles. Friend and I noticed the special Ti rail saddles they made for Concours des Machines in France a few years back, as written in Bicycle Quarterly. We inquired if such saddles were available, received a positive response that they only make a few each year and if we wanted, we’d be put on a list. Maybe 6-8 months later they were ready to make them and needed our choices: leather color, firm or softer leather, aluminum or brass rivets. We ordered 2 in black with aluminum rivets, one firm one soft. Katia was great to deal with, beautiful saddles arrived well packed. We’ve both enjoyed riding on them. An extravagance, but a fine experience and now we have very cool saddles from a company who have resurrected crafting saddles using long ago methods.

Beautiful! I wonder though, how well the aluminum rivet heads would stand up to the stresses on the saddle. Isn't aluminum softer and more prone to cracking than copper (or is it brass?) as used on on the Brooks Pro?
How much might these Al/Ti Ideale saddles be selling for?
