Univega Gran Rally 1984 or so
Picked up a Univega Gran Rally for a little more than a song this afternoon.
It's got an entire Shimano 600 Grupo.
Hubs, brakes, derailleurs, levers and shifters as well as the cranks.
Did a two step and sang a bar. the guy howled and gave it to me for 80 bucks if I'd stop singing....

it's got a Sun Tour 6 speed freewheel(?) and sun tour dork disk . manufactured early '84 like everything else. It's a 63cm

Getting ahead of myself, back to the rockhopper.
I've done the bottom bracket, the headset and the ubrake. Need to go to the LBS because my old weak hands are killing me popping the freewheel loose.

I like to clamp the freewheel tool in my bench vise. Then I grab the rim like a big steering wheel and turn left. If the tire is still mounted, you'll have a big gripping surface. I've only had one that tried to move the workbench, but it eventually succumbed.

Thank you for that. I normally use my bench vise, but no tire. adding the tire made my hands hurt a lot less.

That is a complete groupset! Even the headset is Shimano 600. You just need to find the Shimano 600 stem and seatpost to make it a shrine to Shimano 600!

All those old late 80's six speeds usually have enough room for a seven speed cog set. And, seven speed means you can get indexed brifters. Oh yeah. Time to build a franken bike dude. I guaruntee. That **** will fit.
