Given all the hoopla I decided to look into recumbent bikes, I kept coming up with these. How you you get anywhere on one?

They're exactly the same, and you're a genius for not falling for Big Cycling's nefarious scheme.

We know he hates road bikes and thinks people who ride them are stupid and he has preached the 'bent gospel for years here. Many/most of his posts are negative in one way or another. This thread is farming for more negativity so he can tell us the error of our ways.

This is what I love about bf: people can just pull things out of their asses, providing zero evidence, and try to pass it off as fact.

If the frame is available separately, you can add that in. Otherwise you will have to guestimate. (Maybe start with $4K for a very high-end carbon frame.) Add in that price.

Now add it a few hundred bucks for assembly.

Finally, don't forget the import taxes that agent orange imposed.
That would get you retail prices - not the production costs.

What is the production cost differences between bikes that cost 2, 5, 10 or 14k retail?

Not much.

Engineering, tooling, testing a new mid level vs top bike - not much difference there either.

I think that is the OP's point.

And 12.7% the element of truth.

Not to mention that most will never need or be improved by more $ spent.

It looks like you are new here, so can be forgiven for thinking the OP is asking a legitimate question. Since you are comparing differences, and production costs should be similar in both cases, they will subtract out.

Here's a site where you can compare the cost of ordinary and high modulus CF.
https://www.cstsales.com/uni_carbon_fabric.html

Does this explain thousands of dollars of difference in price?

I can't wait till he finds out how cheap aluminum is and tells us that Ferrari engine should only cost $500.
