VO Diagonale Rims/Offset Drilling

I am trying to build some wheels, and the the drilling on these are slight offset. Anyone know the amount of offset? Appears to be 1-2 mm.

That's weird. I didn't think they were supposed to have an offset. It's probably a production defect, but I'd definitely make use of it on the back!

Its not one sided offset, it alternates side to side. I will try to get some pics up

Duh'O. Yes, called them up. No real measured offset, just slight difference for left/right sided spokes.

Oh! Gotcha. Then you'd just want to pay attention to "handedness" when lacing up.

I have. Multiple times.....ugh. The lace up that somehow has become a huge pain in the butt. Meticulous measuring that yields too long spokes or bad lacing on my part. One more time....

When doing a spoke calc, you treat all rims like that as no offset.

disagree.

for most wheel builds a 1 - 2 mm offset has a negligible impact on on the spoke length calculation.

the calculator I use does have a factor for spoke hole offset.

There are some rims, like the Mavic M5, that do have a pretty significant offset.

that will prolly void my warranty ! I'm sure he's a smart guy. I'd be happy to have the discussion with him.

I don't blindly follow the proclamations of self - appointed "experts"

One time long ago I personally witnessed the destruction of a very expensive piece of equipment - a deployment boom for a spacecraft antenna - due to the misinterpretation of a measurement performed by a "Stanford Engineer" - who INSISTED he was right, ignoring the protests of others in the room.

But what do I know ?

I would agree that the amount of left/right offset in a rim like the M5 is at least equal to the amount of offset in an OCR rim, and is therefore worth referencing.

That is a fair shake of offset. The VO rims are only 1-2 mm. So for spoke calc it’s not a big deal, but seems to indeed matter for L-R spoke placement

the calculated spoke length will be .1 to.2 mm shorter, if not less.

to be sure, that's.POINT 1 to POINT2 mm. .004" to . 008"... or 2 to 4 average human head hairs, at most.

seriously .
