I was about to say something snippy about Strava, which I've never used. Then I remembered being annoyed when I forget to activate the exercise app on my Apple watch before a ride.

I don't use Strava in live mode or whatever it's called when it runs while you're riding. But I record most of my workouts on a Garmin device--either my watch or bike computer, and then the Garmin app automatically uploads to Strava.
The thing I hate is when I forget to stop the recording, load up my bike in the car, and start driving. It thinks I've broken all kinds of records for speed and perhaps distance. I end up just deleting those. (It's only happened a few times.)

I forgot my helmet once on a mtb ride. I saw my shadow on the ground and noticed the lack of hat.
I stopped using odometer/computer on my bikes around 1999. I can ballpark mileage and if I want specifics, I do a lot of rides with a guy I call Data. When I do club rides, the website lists distance and elevation.

OK I'll play along..
2) I forgot to attach my fender and there are wet patches from recent rain
3) My backup water bottle is in fact empty
4) I forgot my light and I won't be home until well after dark
5) There's latex all over from a sealed puncture I never heard
6) I'm not getting the usual texts popping up on my head unit because I forgot my phone

On my last ride I went for a couple hours before I noticed I'd only gone about 8 or 9 miles. It was then that I noticed I'd forgotten to bring my bike.

I know a guy that can't figure how to link his Garmin account to Strava. Every activity he does he records simultaneously on his Garmin watch and his phone. He takes a screen capture on his phone of the activity in Garmin Connect and then adds that to his Strava activity. Then he puts screen captures of his Strava app and his Garmin app on facebook where often he says that one of them didn't record right if they differ by a very small percentage.

This could never happen in the proto version of the app I’m piloting. There is no ‘on/off”. Once you create an account it never stops recording you life. You can label any segment you want, but it’s all always there.

I'm still trying to recover from that time my speed sensor died with a few miles left in the ride. Those are miles Strava will never know about. The horror of it all keeps me up at night.
But yeah, having something screw up the ride data sucks if you're into the numbers (and I am).
