Also dude this ride suuuuuucked. About 46 F at my parents house, a bit warmer towards the coast, but I quickly encountered a thick marine layer that followed me around for about 2.5 hrs of the ride. Soupy, thick, wet on the ground and soaked through my clothing. Not pleasant. High z1 AP, legs were stiff and I just spent a lot of time coasting since I couldn't see **** and wasn't comfortable on the downhills for visibility, tire traction and temperature reasons.
As soon as I saw the marine layer I should have turned around and hopped on the trainer lol. I was hoping it would burn off quickly, but I guess it was exceptionally thick today.

@TMonk It was wet at my house in the AM and from the top of Soledad, I could see the thick marine layer even at noon. Oh well, our “White Christmas”.
Today, track so hopefully, the velodrome will be far enough inland and high enough not to be affected by marine layer.

Downed a single Krispy Kreme glazed original and then hit a 40k lunch spin. 65 deg. Niiice. Donned the short sleeve San Remo and did sweetspot. Almost hit an hour 40k, just too many stops along the way slowing it up. But nice to freaking roll.
This San Remo goes on really easy and fits about right, but it's always hard to get over the shoulders once it is sweaty. Whatever, I love those suits.

50 min on the trainer this morning with a 20' then 15' at z3 in position (TT bike), then I hopped on the road bike and took the scenic route in. After I get home it will be about 2.5 hrs or so for the day.
3.5 - 4 at a conversational z2 with teammates tomorrow.
Maybe some light MTB on Sunday.

Moderate Z2 metric century on the road bike. Given the slower speed and more elevation, more time. So more KJ's and more TSS. Did fine on two bottles and a decent lunch before. Almost shed a tear as brewery on way home opened at 3, it was 2:15. So sad.
My running has added a bit much cortisol and weight. As soon as I cut it, the weight falls. Whatever. It's cheap aerobic time when needed in off season.
Count down on super TT extensions coming in and Notio testing. If I find even 10w, it'll be sweet. Then the modern tubeless trispoke and disc. 20w total would be stellar. I'm sure as an average joe schmuck I can get sub 0.200.

That was a highly, highly enjoyable ride home. Just 30 min at a high z2 AP by feel, incl. a lot of coasting down towards mission valley.
It's chilly out but not cold, and my legs were loose, and I just felt good, smooth and quick on the bike. Lots of holiday energy out and pleasant interactions with a couple motorists, peds and other cyclists. You don't get that on Zwift. Although I do love me some Zwift time though. I think I'm gonna shoot for 6 hours on Z next Saturday since it's sort of a milestone for me... Weather might call for it too (rain in forecast EOW).

did 13hrs this week, continuing with my modified trainerroad SSB1 HV (Tues, 3hrs z2 ;Wed, 90min z2, Thurs, 2hr sweet spot; Fri, 60min z2;Sat 2hr sweet spot;Sun 3.4hrs z2). I also bumped my ftp from 290 to 295, my workouts, esp z2, were really on the low side for HR I'd expect to see. I hadn't updated at all in 2021, so hopefully I'll see some gains for 2022 lol Using this more z2 heavy base structure is hopefully a good change in training stimulus to make this happen. This week I'll hopefully do 13.5hrs and next week 14 to wrap up this first block

I find that the numbers my g3 puts out are indistinguishable from my Quarq (and my Quarq tracks almost to the watt with my Elite Direto).

Back from a two week vacation. My son and I did manage to do a pretty epic MTB ride, which I'll post separately. I still have a couple of CX races left on the calendar, but I have no expectations there, so I'm feeling very off-seasonish now. Did a super mellow Z1-2 trainer session this morning while watching the Get Back documentary.

5:55 on the trainer. Time for a burrito and some sedentary chores. The lady and I are doing steak (and salad and potatoes) and wine night later. Yum. We have three ribeyes open in the fridge since last night drying out a bit and a fantastic Rhone Syrah, can't wait.

TTT though Camp Pendleton to San Clemente. It was a beautiful winter day in SoCal. I heard that some people were on a trainer.

Haha, going for 6 on the trainer is something of a milestone for me over the last couple years. Despite having solid outside ride options, I kinda wanted to "check the box" of a monster trainer ride as I get into my first block of base. I was strangely looking forward to it.
A couple local masters (Thurlow, Doug) lead a group ride every Saturday and a "top 10 TdF and GT winner" was appearing according to the group chat/message, which was predictably Chris Horner. So I did pass that up so I could ride the trainer lol... maybe something is wrong with me.

Haha, means a lot coming from you TKP!
Warming up now for another 2 with 2x light SST up Epic KOM in Watopia. But this time it's actually raining outside so I have an excuse.
EDIT: Tmrrw I will go for 2.5 hrs on Z and then commute to work, 30 min each way on the road bike. Thursday, 90 min on the TT bike actually outside (lol). Another 7 or so over the weekend and I'll hit 14 hr and cap off block 1.

You couldn't eke out another 5 minutes to officially hit 6 hours?

Admittedly it's a bad habit of mine, ending rides a little short, ending intervals 1-10s early etc. I know the mental fortitude is valuable in race situations but hey, lets say I do it in the interest of longevity.
Sometimes I use it as an excuse to be a troll on Strava... I enjoy spinning around the neighborhood after long rides to hit 99.x miles. When the comments roll in, I'll say things like "Look, I tried ok???", or "I gave it all I had."

I think it's more of a flex to end it slightly early. 6 hours is just another Tuesday for TMonk, why try for the round number?

Oh man, I can't do that. On my cooldowns, I'm always going until the next full number. Then it's the next multiple of 5 or 10. Then it's the next minute. My OCD won't let me quit on a partial. Especially on the trainer. Outside, I'm a little less particular about even numbers because I get tired of circling the cul de sac.

I'm on my last week of SSB1 HV (modified doing endurance 4 days a week and sweet spot twice). CTL 83 TSB is -22 but feeling good. I even took my riding outside, which is almost unheard of even in nice weather lol But I needed it to avoid getting burned out by 3.5hr-4hrs on the trainer. Last 4hr session is Sunday so we're almost there. And for the TR folks, I've got myself up to 7.9 sweet spot progression and expect to be 8.1-8.3 by the end of this.

Thankfully, TMonk did not ride 6:66.
