I just realized that the Checker cabs were absurdly common at the time of that song, and they've now disappeared. I didn't appreciate them until they were gone.

I for one think, that is a pretty good size tree. Maybe not massive like a giant redwood but big. I'm gonna say next mission......

Pic from behind the handlebars of a dozen other people on bikes waiting at a stop light. (If you are waiting too you may count yourself.)

If there is snow in the picture, each person counts as two.

If it’s raining and 1C/34F, each person counts as three.

If both, each person counts as six.

Thanks, 3S1M.

I'm liking the Schwinn even better now that it is wearing the handlebars that originally came from my Norco. Those bars made my Norco feel too twitchy, while the slower steering Schwinn feels perfect with those Norco "north road-ish" bars.

What kind of seat is that?

I'm wondering if most of us ride alone...... I have pics from the summer of us riding in the neighborhood but never at a light and of course, nothing current...... Probably us winter riders are few and far between. Where I live I see some now and then though....

It's a retro styled seat that mimics the old Schwinn S seats from back in the day. Some 21st century retro styled Schwinns came with that seat, just with different colored covers. Models such as the Willy, Jenny, Coffee, and the currently offered Traveler.

That seat is a surprisingly good and it's firm for a wide seat. It doesn't meet typical Bike Forum standards, but it feels better overall to me than the Cloud 9 commuter seat (which is too soft) that I have on my other bike.

So, am I paranoid?

It’s been a day, same rules, but ten people. And if tomorrow, eight people. And the day after tomorrow? (You get the idea, eventually you just need a picture of a stop light.)

I really like this mission thread. 👌
Heck, I don't have a stop light within 20 miles of my house. And there isn't two people who ride bikes between it and me.. For me it's a good problem to have 😎. Gonna have to wait for the next mission....

No not really..... But kind of. The OP sez the number of riders at the stop light goes down for each day there's no pic. The bar lowers everyday.....

Yeah, it's just I don't think we've gone this long without a picture...... Do I intervene??? Do I let it ride? I never did set a time frame for how long we should wait... I suggested 48 hours.... But...... Would be kind of neat if someone could complete this mission.

This one is out of my reach, because the local clubs fanatically stick to their riding routes/schedules. If the ride time is 7am, it's 7am no matter what. Thing as, at 7am it's like 38º. By 9:30 it's 65º. So I wait until then, and by the time I'm on the road, they've already cancelled due to the cold and not ridden at all. My Strava fly-bys in December are few and far between.

I don't blame you for waiting til it's warmer. The other night it was like 23 with wind and it's cold on the face. Plus us Wisconsin people have all kinds of clothes for winter. It's not that big of a deal for me. Honestly, for me an ideal temperature for doing outside stuff is 45-60 degrees with no wind or rain. It keeps you cool while working. But it's rare that there's no wind so when there is more like 55-70 is ideal. But this is my first year riding in the winter and it feels special. It reminds me of deer hunting and snow skiing and all the things I used to do when I was younger before getting lyme disease. So part of me really likes being out it in the cold. I feel alive.

Anyways.....

I've said this before-- folks have it easier in other parts of the country with regards to cold, because we don't have "proper cold." A day might start out in the low 40s, and within a few hours be in the upper 50s, with crystal clear skies and a very hot sun beating down. So every ascent drops a bucket of sweat, and every descent is like getting into a blast chiller. Places with actual weather start the day cold, continue through the day cold, and end the day cold. A 30-40º swing here is not unusual. Woke up this morning it was 41º, it's already 67º. It's impossible to dress for cycling in both of those temperatures. In the winter I look forward to a nice overcast day to equalize the temperature.

Of course, today is the nicest day we'll have for the rest of the year, and I'm resting. I also hate riding on Friday's anyway, as traffic always seems to be up about 50%, and everyone is in a bigger hurry than even usual.

Well, I hear what you're saying. The desert can swing drastically. But it happens here too. Yesterday it was like 20 in the morning and then by night it was 43. Our swings are usually more weather related but they do swing in temps. We always say if you don't like the weather here, wait a few hours.

Sometimes it'll be like 25 out, but sunny. So you're all dressed up in warm clothes and you drive an hour in your car and the sun has it like 70 degrees inside the car. LOL.
