2021 Cino Heroica Ride Report

I'm way late getting this done, but I finally finished a blog entry about my experience riding my first Cino Heroica. There are a few BF regulars featured.

Here is the link: Cino Heroica 2021 ? The Beautiful Bicycle

Thanks for posting! Half of me wants everyone to know about this great ride so all my buddies show up, the other half wants to keep it our little secret...

Everyone here should start blocking out time in late summer/early fall for this ride.

Thanks "Little Brother" for taking us back to Cino weekend last summer, it is much appreciated.
Those memories help get me through these dreary days we have from now until....ugh. When is spring break again, Neal?

Only 4 months away, Matt! Maybe we should all just plan some regular rides together in the Zwift world? Ugh.

I'd love to do this one day but it's tough with my work schedule. I know it's a great ride and there are a lot of folks doing it that I'd like to meet.

How come these kinds of rides are never on my radar? I feel like I see an ad for every gravel put on in the US all year, but never anything for rides like this. I'm kinda over gravel so these rides really pique my interest.

@mountaindave,

The traditional date for Cino was moved for various reasons, I think it worked out better for you since school wasn't in session yet? The earlier you announce, the more likely peoples can arrange their life around Cino. Also consider tapping into the BF community to help out on planning, logistics, etc. early on. We're all used to Skype meetings now...;-)

Cino isn't specifically a "gravel" ride, but there's plenty of it, so if you're burnt out on it, it may not be your thing. Read this to understand the spirit of Cino. So, while your Warbird might be the perfect bike for this sort of ride, it's not really in the spirit of Cino.

To be clear, the Cino route is all on roads. Most of them just happen to be unpaved. Unlike Eroica, no one will stop you from riding a modern bike on Cino, but would you go to a costume party without a costume? Speaking of costumes, Cino is all in on vintage. Even the dinner encourages you to dress up as if it were times of yore.

I was just getting ready to go out and refine my rain gear setup.

We dodged a bullet and got our chimney rebuilt Mon. and Tues. it had been scheduled for August and more brickwork will have to wait.

Six weeks, eh? My shoulder will probably be sufficiently healed up that I'll be able to ride part of that Is this going to be roughly the same route as before, started in Berkeley?

Same as 2019 TdMIL, start in Berkeley, but we're going over the Carquinez Bridge first, headed to Andy's dad's in Santa Rosa for our first overnight. Thor plans on hooking up with us somewhere between Cazaderos and Santa Rosa. You're welcome to join, email me separately.

Thanks for the kind words, @Soup_Please - great photos and great prose!

As of today, it's unofficially official - Cino 2022 has been scheduled for pre-fire season on the weekend after our nation's birth: July 8-10, 2022. We begin planning details soon, hopefully registration to be released no too far into the new year. Fun stuff like the Concours d'Elegance will return. One of the parents is already planning wool jerseys. We're testing out caterers. We plan on returning to the full monty this year!
