Cinelli 1970s ???

Hi,

Helping out a friend of mine. These are the only 2 pics he has.

The bike is at a bike shop.

The owner does not know exactly what model or year....or even value.

I know nothing about Cinelli bikes.

Hopefully some experts can chime in.

Appreciate your help and time.

Lot of folks here that know more than me but I would think it's from the late 60's. A lot depends on how original the components are that are installed. The high flange hubs are from the 60's. The side pull brakes also started in the mid sixties. Decals appear to be from that era. It would be good to get a clear pix of the bottom bracket. Looks in great shape.

It's hard to tell exactly without seeing the headbadge, which changed around 1970/71. If it's the brass one the bike is probably a 1970 or so, given the brazed bb cable guides. If aluminum, early seventies. Also, earlier bikes often had fender eyelets on the dropouts (becoming less common after the early 70's and the "Speciale Corsa" decal on the seat tube also looks to be 70 or later.

Beautiful bike that looks to be in great condition!

I’m not an expert on these but at some point I. The 60’s, Cinelli went from Reynolds 531 to Columbus tubing and another point in the late 60’s stopped using fender braze ons. Maybe that will help date this one. A search for Cinelli Mod SC will probably yield some similar bikes to this one. That one is nice and I would t know where to place a value now.

My friend told me the bike shop owner mentioned $ 4000 to $6000.00

I thought that was outrageous.

But my friend found one on Ebay for a little over 4 grand !!!!!!

That does not match up very well with the first post.
The bike is incomplete, it has value, a good color. A good size.
I have one similar, complete, in better condition and possibly the same size, not is this uncommon color but Cinelli corporate silver.
I am hoping to get $3,100
And that is a hope.
ebay ask prices are just that.
a better tale are transaction prices. Those are often cloaked now, as frequently the format is ask or best offer, the final accepted offer is now cloaked.

this "dusty rose" example has a bunch of things wrong with it, and the condition of the chrome is while not showing Rust, is not known.
Pump is not original, a frame fit and much too small, this bike is probably from the time prior to that.
A Cinelli of this period with a Brooks saddle? Not OEM, but sometimes exchanged at point of sale.
Missing parts. Can all be addressed but knocks back the value.

As always, it doesn't matter what people ask for something. What matters is completed sales. This may very well be someone's "grail bike" and they might pay $4,000.00 for a nice Cinelli in a rare color. The lugs are gorgeous.

Suggest you search eBay for completed sales to get an idea of what they've sold for.

Keep in mind, what this Cinelli is worth here will be different than what it is worth in Europe, Switzerland, Japan etc. The build-date can be determined / guessed by the Columbus tubing sticker, if not the serial number on. the frame. Where are the Cinelli experts?
I have a similar sticker on my Rossin, which says "Tubi-Reinforci" but the sticker is white not gold. Still trying to figure the date on it.
As for this gem, whoever said 'late sixties' is probably close... but I am thinking early '70's
