Almost,,, Sal just happened to have his brother visiting, and another Italian relative down for last months ride.

That Italian language has a cool fluidity to it.

Another great day at the Rose Bowl Vintage Ride. The weather was fantastic. we had a good turnout ,and we had quite a few first timers join us as well. Thanks to Chuck for coming out and sending us off. A couple of the San Diego boys came up to ride as well ,Curtis and Mike Joined in . Make sure and mark your calenders for the next Brian Baylis Birthday Ride which is now held on the 2nd Saturday of the month in San Diego.

I have a severe case of C.R.S. ,(Cant Remember Sh*t ) ,so I hope I have his name correct, But Mike with the Schwinn Paramount drove down specifically to Pasadena to Ride the Vintage ride, all the way from up North in the Bay Area. One helluva cool guy and a big afficionado of Vintage bicycles. Here he is in the Center with the neon jersey.

Here are some "Action Shots" of the ride . The pace was the usual casual speed of around 15 to 16 MPH, Until we hit the small climb before the stop at Bean Town cafe. Thats where things tend to heat up a bit, the Climbers stretch out the legs and make things exciting.. Our finishing Sprint to the parking lot was nipped in the bud, the Huge Event at the Rose Bowl had the parking lot packed to capacity with cars blocking the usually empty road.

If you're wondering what the latest cycling shoe of choice is being worn by the Vintage Crowd,,wonder no further because here they are. A huge selection of new, old , some Very old and also some very Odd. Too bad Phill wasnt in attendance because his old shoes are legendary.

Those sandles belonged to the founder of the Event, Chuck. Chuck wasnt riding but drove over to the rest stop /Bean Town Cafe in the comfort of his vehicle, and those cool sandles.

good to see some folks riding in vintage shoes too!

I understand that slotted cleats and toe straps just don't work for some folks, but I do enjoy seeing black shoes with perforated uppers, gleaming toe clips, etc. Plus, getting into toe clips is one of those little skills that are as essential experiences as friction shifting and really having to squeeze the brake levers if you want to stop.

Of course, one key to wearing vintage shoes is actually finding vintage shoes! I was fortunate to grab a few pairs when they were going out of style, permitting me to continue to use them with my vintage bikes.

thanks again for sharing those pics!

Geez, I really need to get there and ride with you guys. I miss riding in the sun and warmth. (58 degrees and raining in the Portland area today.) FWIW: I grew up in South Pasadena. My first "real" job was working at B&H Cycle, which used to be on Mission near Fair Oaks... where the photos were taken.

Sigh.
