Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The paint does make it hard to photograph the frame as a whole. Hopefully this older photo is more clear. The seat stays go straight into the back of the lug which is flat.

I get that, the paint job specifically is very polarizing (being very much from an era)

Wow cool, thanks for the closeup. Thats sorta like a fastback setup, but with an extra wing to the lug. Really cool design that I havent seen before.

i suppose i'll take another dose of mockery, with another bike from an uncool brand which shall not be named or identified by graphics from this view! the frame is probably 1.5cm too small for me, thus the spacers even with a pretty significant saddle to bar drop.. but the next size up would have been 1.5cm too big and has that "tall guy bike" look.

As a fellow steel bike owner (modern and vintage) it pains me to agree. It is a VERY cool bike and I’m sure it has a stellar ride but I’m gonna have to go with not hot

Going with hot. What’s it weigh? Like 13 pounds?

meh. I’m sure it looks nice in the wild. Especially when you are rolling in your Primal kit. How to up your hotness score? Post a pic without the saddle adjustment maxed or swap to a zero setback post. Ditch the “UCI approved” decals on the wheels. In my mind, they are just a marketing gimmick for the Chinese carbon companies to get you to buy their product.

Fair enough. Took the Pic when I brought it home, didn’t even pay attention to where the saddle was, not sure why it is in that position anyways.

I would remove the UCI stickers, but that is what is holding the wheels together.

wishing the dura ace wasn’t upside down and the nose on the saddle wasn’t so short

The stem isn't the prettiest stem and does get dirty easily due to it's matte finish. The stem (Cinelli Grammo) is one of the lightest quill stems available though so I've kept it on

If this was the Gaudy or Not thread, you’d be drinking tigers blood and beating off cougars left n right! Lemme know if you need a wingman.

that’s what i get for aligning it with the chainstay!

i think the saddle has pretty normal road saddle proportions (it’s not the snub nosed version, which i had for a while) but it’s pretty far back on the post. decided it wasn’t worth it to get a more offset post to center it.

So which is hotter on my gas pipe, with the Chinese crabon furniture @ 8.6kg or the Paul furniture @ 9.2kg?

It's hard to consider anything with that many spacers under the stem as "hot" (remember - this thread is all about faux roadie snobbery). That said the aluminum is a better look for that bike (IMO). However, the weight-weenie side of me would have a hard time ignoring the cost of 0.6kg.

The wheels don’t fit the bike. IMO, aluminum wheels would look better.

The triple crankset is definitely a cooling factor. Otherwise, for a bike of its era, that's pretty warm. Carbon wheels with a 40-50mm depth would turn up the heat a bit. A white saddle would balance well with the bar tape and decals. However, because of its age, true hotness is probably unattainable.

Nice job on the build. I get a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction out of building a bike from a bare frame.

Best looking bike you've posted so far. Might look better with black tires or darker gummies. The Ritchey you posted would be there except the loud graphics on the wheels don't go with the frame decals. That and the bar tape on it doesn't quite match.

The shifters are at a weird location on the handlebar, looks uncomfortable. Its weird though, the mismatched frame and fork don't really take away from it much. Kinda gives it a "race appliance" feel.

I believe the frame used to be dark blue.
