Black wheels would look better. And no QR seatpost bolt.
The triple isnt cool, but thats pretty minor to me. The shifers are a bit low on the bars, as already mentioned, but I am guessing they are placed there based on the older hood design because if you move them up a bit, they quickly start pointing to the sky. Ive had that shifter design on a few bikes and its a really small window between good position and goofy.
Really, black wheels and no QR seatpost bolt would make that thing look way cooler.

The frame was free, came with the silly seat post quick release. Actually tried to get a clamp yesterday but both shops didn’t have one that would fit.
As far as the hoods. I hate these hoods. I hate them with an absolute passion. I hate them so much I bought a new groupset for the ritchey just so I wouldn’t have to use them anymore. No matter how I position them, long rides they are uncomfortable.
Friend of the family offered the frame to me a couple years ago. At the time, I was new and didn’t have any parts, once I replaced the groupset on the Ritchey, I had a bunch of stuff laying around so I figured why not. Still don’t know what I will do with it. Might bring it as a spare to crits, or throw it on the trainer or just use it when I feel like it.
The mavics are not staying on it, they are the spares for The Ritchey. I have a set of old shimano wheels, but I dont have anymore 25 mm tires. Cassette is easier to change then tires.

It's a nice looking bike for a freebie/parts bin build. A former BF member gave me this frame. I built it up with a vision of how he might have built it, but suited for me.

Thats dope. I really want to find an old caad frame. If I found one for cheap/ free I would strip the trek and build that.

Most local group does thunder ridge every year. I want to do it, I also have been wanting to go to Roanoke for a weekend and hop on the parkway. Lastly I want to ride from Williamsburg to Charlottesville and back in a day. I have a couple guys that want to do it with me, and there is a beast of a cyclist in Richmond that has done it a couple times.
The underlying issue, I can’t get weekends off, or I can’t get them off consistently so planning anything is tough. If I try a request a specific day off, I can get it but then the rest of the month is messed up, so I try and avoid that.
I missed a lot of races last year because of this. I am hoping this year will be better, but I am cautiously optimistic.

The paint process took way too long and I dont love the end result of clearcoat as it isnt as even/smooth as I hoped, but its an amateur job so it is what it is.
I have to cable the thing and toss it on my trainer to dial in the fit still.

A very long project bike of mine is actually an old CAAD3 frame that I stripped, repainted, added a carbon fork to, and am decking out with parts I have lying around- a mix of 11sp 105, 11sp Ultegra, Praxis crank, Ultegra brakes, 105 cassette, and random cockpit pieces too.
The paint process took way too long and I dont love the end result of clearcoat as it isnt as even/smooth as I hoped, but its an amateur job so it is what it is.

Thats awesome!
Nice paint job.
My first really road bike was a Caad 4 but it was too small. Wish I kept it.

WBurg to Cville and back would be a tough day. If you're wanting a test that you could ride on your own time, you could ride WBurg to Richmond to Ashland/Hanover. Then, tack on parts of the RABA Heart of Va ride routes on your own. You'd have to figure out your SAGing/support. The century is a good route that takes you through some nice country. The cue sheets are here. Well, they're not there, but the routes map is.

Just realized, I now have 5 trek road bikes in my garage. Never planned on that to happen nor did I particularly have a desire for trek bikes. The local bike shop has always done me right, and over time friendships developed which has led me to be a repeat customer. There is something about having the full support of the bike shop, vs finding an authorized dealer.

So, I got a CAAD8 full bike a couple months ago for $200, and it came with 9-speed Shimano hoods. 9-speed Shimano is what my first road "modern" bike had on it back in 2002, so it felt like home, but yeah, they suck especially with modern handlbars. I never took a pic of it with the stock ***** stem and very scratched seatpost, maybe I should have, the difference might've been more dramatic.
