Chain too long or something else ?

Picked up this bike the other day. Rode great.

Shimano 105 group
9 speed

Changed tires today and noticed chain rubbing see pic

This happen on another bike last year and it was the chain that was too long.

Big chainring no issues

Appreciate any and all help

Looks as if the previous owner installed the chain without cutting it to the correct size

Yea, too long. In the big/big combination, the derailer should be closer to horizontal. You are also rubbing before you get to the small/small combination. You likely need to remove 3 rivets. Yellow arrow points to rivet 1 (it’s already removed). Red arrow points to rivet 3. It could also be seen as one link if you consider a “link” to be an inner and outer plate.

Shift into the small/small combo and the pulley cage should look slightly less horizontal than the first photo. Also try the big/big combo with the new chain length just to check if there is enough slack but I highly doubt it would end up being too short for your bike.

Looks like cyccommute beat me to it. Agree with what he says.

Thank you BOTH!!

That's what I thought, but wanted to make sure.
The last pic it's in BIG / BIG
RD looks pretty horizontal**********

Really appreciate the expertise help.

So should I start with one / two links ?

Because once removed cannot put back.....correct ????

Again really appreciate the help.

You can just pinch a link and use the front chainring to hold the chain in place or make chain holder with an old coathanger or ??? to hold the links together. Kinda looks like this. Bicycle Chain Hook Stainless Steel Connecting Aid Chain Cutter Holder Hanger - Walmart.com This will give you a pretty good idea of the proper length. Since you already have a quicklink you can just remove one link at a time and try it out on a ride so you're sure it's the right length.

Thanks again to ALL!!!

That part looks like a paper clip😁😁😁😁😁

I can move the chain from the small chainring and rest on BB to adjust chain.

I do this when removing wheel to make it easier as well 😁🚲🚲

Appreciate your time and expert help and knowledge 🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲

I'll remove one link at a time. I'm on the cautious side 🙂
