Cost to install power tap
I asked this in the 41 and got no responses. I'm shopping for a power tap and there are lots of options as far as bare hubs versus already built wheels. I've never had a wheel built, so any idea what the cost would look like to have a power tap hub put on a rim. I haven't decided on spokes yet, so just labor.

Figure ~$75-100 labor to build a wheel (from what I've seen). If you like to work on your own stuff, build it yourself. It aint rocket science and you can work on it until it's perfect if you want (something a shop can't afford to do). You'll end up spending some $'s up front on a few tools(more than it would have cost to build a wheel), but there's something satisfying about riding on a wheelset you've built.

A lot of the known wheel builders on this forum will do a PowerTap build for about the retail cost of the PowerTap hub.
I suggest you look up White Mountain Wheels, Psimet or Fairwheel bikes.
I had Troy at Fairwheel build me up a PowerTap wheelset about 5 years ago with Sapim CX-Ray Spokes and a Kinlin 27mm rim. The wheel build has been 100 percent solid. I had one spoke break about 3 years ago, but that was about it. I am pretty sure WMW and Psimet also use those same rims and spokes.

I'll pipe in support of Psimet...
Wife and I have 2 28h PTs built by him and have not had an issue with the build in 2yrs that we have owned the wheels. They are our primary training wheels and see tons of mileage in all conditions and haven't had to touch the wheels except for swapping batteries in the hub...
