Just got the sign couple weeks ago , that track bike is what I need that machined French threaded pitch 10 locking for ,that I posted in your machined thread.

some of the things I've collected.

Well, thanks Lofter, but cutting inside metric threads, especially on something like a lock ring, is WAY beyond my abilities.
Thinking about how they did it at the factory I can't even figure it out. Wish I could do it.

Yeah it's a hard one for sure, mavic ,Renault and gitane were working together in the late 70's in the wind tunnels to come up with the road bike and the track bike. Which lead to the delta wing bike. They all use the 80mm mavic front hub and of course the back hub was mavic . they put the early dura ace group on the road bike and used pitch ten on the track bike. They either had shimano or mavic make the French threaded lock ring to go on the mavic hub. I've only seen the track bike in the catalog . I bought the frame set off a guy who came over from France and brought this gem with him. Ive never seen another ever. And I look at all the ebay's craiglists and French sites daily for bikes. The other hard parts for this bike is finding the aero pieces that go on the rims and the stem and riser that was made by mavic also. The stem looks bmxish.

Thanks, Papik. I think it is from 1976 though.

Dang!, another one gets away from me......
Just no budget at this time to jump in there and bid for it. They seem to always pop up at the wrong time for me.....
Not bad for a final price as all it needed were decals to get it back to close to mint, and the small ding/scratch at the top tube looks very fixable....
I wonder if I'll ever get to own one of these grail Gitanes...... All I need is the frame, as I have a period correct French component group and wheelset waiting for it already.....

Well this one ought to get me strung up around here, but is a bike given to me by a cousin almost 30 years ago. I thought it was a Peugeot, but the original cable guides match Gitane much closer. It was supposed to fit me better than the Italian bike I had at the time. I tried to love it but it just did not work for me. BUT, it ended up moving with me many times and I still have it. This year, I completely rebuilt it, added canti mounts, bottle bracket bolts, cable mounts, and braze on shifter mounts. Set it up with 700c wheels and cross tires. I installed a complete Huret drive train. As I was puttering with it a close friend wanted it as a gift for his son, so I finally sold it, but the son did not like it and I have it back again.

My other Gitane is definitely one, it is also pretty low end. I have an 80's Victoire Setup as my trainer bike. With a Wahoo Kickr and dual monitor video display. It has modernish 10 speed 105 components. The color is more accurate in the second picture, the flash washed out the color, but the picture is crisper in the first shot.

I have put it on "show your French bike" but I think that this thread is more recomanded...It is my last project, a 1977 GITANE "Tour de France" , it sleeps in a garage since 37 years ...I think that it has an interest, because it is in all original condition ; it is a 3 REYNOLDS tubes with a SUGINO "maxy" crankset , NORMANDY hubs and MAFAC "racer" brakes, SIMPLEX "criterium" derailleur ; just some attack of mouses to the saddle and the tyres "boyaux" pinched .
