Niner RLT 9 RDO, new this year:

It replaces the R1000 Cannondale I bought in 2005 that’s now relegated to the smart trainer. I realized I buy a new bike about every 18 years, I wonder what I’ll get in 2040?

Love, love...love this bike. Not to be super picky, but if it's not the photo angle, the seat alignment might need a check. Just mentioning since a misaligned saddle could cause physical issues.

The latest to make it's way into the house. I have always liked the paint scheme on these and actually had two of them years ago that I sold off. Picked up the frameset awhile ago and rebuilt it back up with some Suntour Superbe parts another enthusiast had given me. Also sourced a NOS Sugino Aero Crank for this and then used a set of tubular wheels I had on hand. It's pretty much finished but will probably stay a work in progress.

How I finished it up at first.

Since I switched this from a 27" wheel setup to a 700c setup there is now a ton of tire space. So it was built with the idea in the back of my head to also keep a second set of wheels ready for it to use for gravel/dirt road riding. Today I snatched up some Schwalbe CX Comp 700 x 38" tires for that purpose and mounted them on a set of old Fulcrum Racing 1 wheels I had laying around. I've got a feeling it will see a lot of use like this as I seem to be more fun rides over the last year or so then in all the previous years.

Made some changes to the Calfee as I sort it out. I think this is the permanent configuration now. 27 miles on it today with heavy legs and winds but I still managed a decent pace on it. I got a few wind free miles mid-ride and that's when it finally started to speak to me. I think this is going to be a good one.

Preferred Fizik Kurve saddle and some old but nice Reynolds DV46 wheels.

This captures how what appears to be black really isn't when out in the sunlight.

Bike posted before, but I just like seeing older Calfees on the road.

edit: Brother can ya spare me a dime? Hey @Edward1066, how is the race fit on this 60cm frame? 58.3cm top tube, with 12cm stem, bars are kinda short & shallow, 38wide. 172.5 crank arms, and have slightly dropped the seatpost ~5 years back when I wuz 65. Can ride w/ power for maybe 10minutes with flatter back in the drops - but pictured is a better sustainable power position. Can lower upper body a bit to get straighter forearms. FTP (1 hr on an indoor trainer) = 248watts. Personal: 185cm tall, 87cm cycling inseam, 192cm wingspan. Set me straight. . Besides telling me to exercise off 10 pounds of midsection for a better feel on the bike. . And a shave and a haircut for aerodynamics. . Masters TT 70+ = here we come.

Not sure if I shared this one that I picked up last year. It's sort of a silly "weight weenie" bike for me. Over the winter I swapped on some new Mavic Tubular wheels and then about a week or so I put on a Fizik Kurve saddle to take some of the harshness out of the rear end.

16 lbs even before the ride yesterday. I need so shave off another ounce so I can say I've got a bike under 16 lbs, LOL!

Out on the ride yesterday

Fausto Coppi from the 90's.....I think.

Another sort of odd duck into the house. Found as a frameset and then pretty much built up from the parts bin. Mix of Dura Ace 7800/7700 parts. Right now I've got Dura Ace/Open Pro wheels on it but some Mavic Cosmics are on the way to try on it. The frame is certainly not your run of the mill steel setup. It's made with Columbus Neuron but the tubes are quite the mix of oversized, and aero shapes. The head tube is shaped pointed on the front and round on the back. The top tube is a flattened oval with the height about twice the diminution of the width. THe downtube is quite large and again pretty triangular. The rear triangle is pretty tight with the seat stays coming in fairly low on the seat tube. Then those fork blades have also been crimped to be a bit triangular for most of their length. I built this up yesterday morning while waiting for things to warm up outside.

Did a short test with it yesterday after my main ride, tweaked a few things, and took it out today for a full 24+ mile ride. First half of the ride I took it easy but the second half I got down into the drops and got after it. Not a super fast ride but it was the fastest pace of the year despite the slow first half. I'm running a NOS Avocet MB saddle on it right now because I wanted to see how the finished bike looked with a yellow saddle. Surprisingly the saddle was fine on the ride and the miles in the drops were very comfortable. The frame felt really stiff and even harsh on the nastiest sections of broken chipseal. But it also really jumped up in speed each time I got into the drops.

Anyway, how about some pics:

I truly like the blue and yellow color.

As you can tell by referencing off the headset, the head tube comes to quite the point in front.

Trying to show the shaping on the fork blades

The top tube is pretty narrow but tall

This shows the triangular shape of the oversized down tube.

A little contrasting color at the end of the bars just for the heck of it and then the cool Dura Ace bar plugs I had in the stash.

Head on of the pointy head tube and more of the contrasting blue and yellow.

More color contrast just for looks.

Racing Department, fast stuff held back by a fat old man.

Love the nice chrome for the clamp area.

Made a change on this one to deeper, aero wheels, the fat tubes on the frame were calling for deeper wheels. First ride with the deeper wheels got me the fastest pace of the year despite me having some knee issues that day that kept me in check for the first 5 miles or so. This one is now a member of the "19 mph" club too.

These wheels/tires came in one oz lighter than the ones I had on it.

My old racing bike, classically geezer-ized.

Here's the build I've been riding around lately. I tried to keep a classic look, but still accommodate my aging bod. It works pretty well for me.

Fredo, built in 1976, updated in 2022.

Geezer mods include:

Selle SMP TRK saddle
taller Nitto Technomic stem
Suntour stem shifters
Red Clover Triplizer w/ 28T Sekai chainring
Suntour V-GT Luxe rear derailleur
28 mm Veloflex tires
handlebar bottle cage

Concessions to newer technolgy include:

powder-coating by Charlie O'Leary
126 mm dropout spacing
7 speed freewheel (14-16-18-20-22-24-28)
lined brake and shifter cables
cork/gel bar tape
electronic speedometer
tire sealant

The new chainring combo (28, 42, 49) seems just right, so far. Yes, they all work.

I post in C&V a lot -- which probably could be labelled as an "Over 50 annex group" so ive posted lots of pics of my bikes

But mostly if its on the road i ride my old, (2002ish) Litespeed Team that i recently re-configured - no real reason to do any more updates - its all the bike i need

But i hit the trails far more than the road and being in the "50 yo club" has financial advantages i never had in my twenties so this is my MTB

-- and looking forward to hitting Angelfire for opening weekend possibly this weekend -- if so i will take the enduro bike (The SB-95 in the foreground ) - i dont feel like fussing with the Big Bike in the background, i figure in my untrained state i probably shouldnt be riding things that absolutely require a DH bike -- But being older doesnt mean we cant Go Full Send occasionally

Keeping on

I know it looks dorky, but it keeps me riding, 16.5 inch frame, easy to mount, stem extender, adjustable stem, wald 867 bars for a nice upright feel. I can see nature as i traverse our local greenways. Its a fun bike, schwinn gs 28 ss by the way, 23.5 lbs
