Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lol. Yesterday evening, I checked the tracking on my tires - they were in Italy and didn't have an estimated delivery date. I just checked now, and they're on the truck for delivery today.

Even the parts acquisition phase, which y'all got to watch being played out in real time, is fun. That last bit arriving, and the anticipation of the build. So far, I haven't felt let down at the end, either. I've never gotten the bike built and said, "Yeah, okay, that's nice" and ignored it.

I'm coming around to the opinion that Italian bikes with Italian bits have been done to death, whereas something like that MX Leader (okay, it's Belgian) in Motorola colors, built up with last-generation 8sp Dura Ace would be cool.

Aaand they're here!

Also, I was afraid of this, but after I'd added a 105 chain to the order, I double-checked and saw "connecting pin included," in the description. Yup - no QuickLink provided. Damn. All of the ones that I've gotten stateside, usually from REI, have included the QuickLink.

But did they include a pin?

I should have at least a few thousand miles left on my two current chains, and I'm pretty sure that I have a spare QuickLink in my saddle tool roll, so it's no big hurry. I'm just more miffed that the good deal turned in to a meh deal.

Do you reuse Shimano quick links? The package says 1 time use, but I haven't had any problems reusing at least till they feel loose on the chain.

Yup, hasn't been an issue. I think that Shimano is just doin' the ol' CYA in case one of those good-fer-nuthin', ambulance chasin' lawyers comes a-knockin'.

In general, perhaps. But it's a Pinarello, it's not like it's a Bianchi or a Mercyk or something.

IKR The class I took yesterday was 3 hrs. At least I could break it up into two 1.5 hr. sessions. When we could do them live I would usually attend a two-day presentation on labor and employment law or IP law. With that format, each session lasts 1 hr. and there is a break between each one. With on line courses, you are sitting in front of a computer listening to people drone on. Normally, I only do one 1 hr. course in a day but had extra time yesterday. Now I am half way to my requirement of 12 hrs. before April 30th.

FedEx.

Just to make sure that I wasn't misremembering, I checked and, sure enough, they were still listed in Italy until 9pm last night and they made a stop in Memphis between then and now. The Italy status may have been an auto-update while in flight, but it's still an impressive total transit time - they were ordered on Monday and shipped on Tuesday.

I reused a KMC quick link, when I discovered that somebody had stolen the one from the package the new chain came in. No problem at all till it broke while I was powering up a hill, trying to maintain momentum. Luckily, I didn't crash or crush my plums on the top tube. But I did have to walk back to pickup the chain, AND make the Call Of Shame only a mile and a half from home.

IF I were going to get a Pinarello, I'd want a 'Big Mig' tribute bike, in Banesto colors, with Campy, except I really hate the first generation Ergo levers.

DHL has always been good, with the exception of being a stickler for duty when applicable.
