Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2008 Fuji Roubaix RC - my new ride

hey guys, finally got my new road bike built. ordered it direct from the uk Fuji wholesalers so got it hugely discounted. it's an 08 Roubaix RC, the top tier of the roubaix series if you discount the euro classic which weirdly wasn't in stock anywhere in europe...!!

for the price the bike is a marvel. full ultegra shifters, mechs and brakes. grossamer pro double crank with classic road spacing (no compact for me thank you sir), high quality carbon fork, stays and seatpost. on a 58cm frame the bike is only 8.62Kg.

goes like a bullet. i had a previous fuji roubaix 2005 and the superb efficiency of the geometry is unchanged. without question its one of the best sprinting and climbing bikes ive ever rode. it has classical horizontal top tube and power diamond downtube, quite an agressive geometry for a so-called roubaix but its very comfortable to ride on long runs.

only downer so far is the white bar taping and saddle (why?) which will get soiled in no time. wheel set is fairly average but easily upgraded.

for the money i highly recommend this bike. it rides beautifully and looks stunning. so pleased with it i'm grinning as i type!

couple of pics for you. any questions about the bike im happy to answer:

exactly, your main concern should be the stem position and the very odd upward angle of the saddle, and also the lack of saddle to handlebar drop.

can u clarify what u mean by "lack of saddle to handlebar drop"? sounds like u dont know what ur talking about.

also, what's wrong with the stem position? if u mean ur one of those "flip it" stem people then no thanks...i prefer a comfortable ride rather than posing in some sort of gimped tt style riding posture.

Because, of course, it is possible to fit the bike to the rider just by seeing two pictures of the bike without the rider on the internet. (Referring primarily to the comment about the saddle to handlebar drop.)

What do people mean when they say 'flip it?' I'm a newbie here, just trying to learn the lingo.

Instead of buying a bike they should get in to redoing houses. Cue the rim shot.

Cool man, thanks. Would you by any chance have a pic of a bike with a flipped stem, so I can learn the difference? Sorry for my ignorance.
