Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

RIGHT! I knew there was something weird about it. If you want all the 'New Dura Ace' goodness, you gotta go whole hog.

Yeah. I understand their position but still not happy. The same thing is true for SRAM Etap AXS. So it seems if you want a wireless drivetrain, you gotta have hydraulic brakes. Phooey.

p.s. I know Campy still supports rim brakes but their electronic shifters are wired.

Nope.

I very rarely get those.

This one has to do with payroll taxes, but thankfully no bad news. Just seeing the envelops raises my blood pressure.

Thank you for confirming that you are currently under the influence of the good stuff.

In all seriousness, if you look at Conor Dunne's data from the "GCN 2 vs 1," he and Hank managed 26mph... and Conor averaged 400w. I know that Conor's a big boy, so he's going to have an aero penalty sheltering behind a single, average-sized human, but he's also a former pro and an awesome TTist, so I'm sure his position is better than average.

I can buy 23 honestly, but you’re right, it does seem too fast

Ben Serotta will hook you up with a nice titanium bike w/ wireless shifting if you are willing to part with… 13k or so

Without trying to, I've heard too much about SRAM hydro that I don't even want to go there.

That does make me wonder, though - how does a system built for DOT differ from one built for mineral oil? Is the viscosity so different putting the wrong fluid in the system would make it perform that poorly?

My felt Z4 had SRAM Rival 22 and I never had problems beyond the occasional ping and squeal- most likely caused by 135mm QR instead of TA

I am aware. I am 56 and likely have one more new bike coming my way, maybe for my 60th birthday. I would consider something shiny and fancy from him or Seven/IF/Calfee/etc. but for the next few years I am sticking with rim brakes and mechanical shifting.

Hmmm, looks like I've done 22.5 solo on the road, in bam's neck of the woods, at 262w...

nice. Serotta is about 5 miles away from me and I’m always tempted to “buy local”

Im trying to work the discipline to hold on to the R3 until 2023. The only times I want to replace it are for rides where I wish I had disc, dirt roads and rain usually.

There are some custom framebuilders in the Philly metro area (Bilenky, Engin, possibly Tom Kellogg although I am thinking he may be retired), so lots of options.

If I had the choice of one more custom-built frame, I might consider a crabon fiber one. It's all a dream for now. I will stick with my 12 year old chinese Ti frame with rim brakes.

It goes through here?

Seems like most of the cross-country routes either goes north of here, or south (if not in the summer).

I would think the rubber parts are different. In cars, which are made for alcohol-based DOT fluid, if you put petroleum products in the brake system it causes all the seals to swell and soften. It ruins the entire system, basically.
My friends Specialized had a leak at the lever/master cylinder and the rubber hood swelled to twice it's size. I'm pretty sure it's mineral oil but that part is never supposed to contact the fluid.

There has been a police pursuit on tv for 2 hours. He drove the wrong way on the freeway and did a bunch of crazy stuff but luckily didn't hurt anyone before they got him stopped. Now he is sitting in the car surrounded by a couple dozen cops. They got a close up of his face before the cops chased the cameraman away and he was yelling at the cops. People be cray cray.
I wonder how many tens of thousand of dollars this costs the city.
The K-9 unit just showed up.
