We went to a wedding in Montana years ago in the Summer. REAlly hot. Stayed in a beautiful house with lots of windows overlooking a small river. That night, with the lights on in the house, the windows were COMPLETELY covered in bugs so you couldn't see anything. I'll pass.

When I biked toured across the country people would change their attitude when they found out we were from the L.A. area. Some would avoid us.

Hey, at least they're both in NorCal. When there's an earthquake, fire, or mudslide in SoCal, I get friends Back East asking if I was affected. LA is 400 miles away.

Yesterday, the family and I had some plans in the morning, but on the way home, I saw a couple of the guys heading out on their planned ride... the ride that I had to skip because of the family plans.
I got home, kitted up and decided to ride the route in the opposite direction so that I could meet up with them. The whole time I'm thinking about when they left, what route variations they might take, and where I'd likely run in to them. I got it narrowed down to a specific window so, about an hour in to my ride and no sign of the boys, I knew that I wasn't going to see them. I just continued on my merry way.
On my way back home, I decided to veer north, just in case they decided to swing by a brewery that's a pretty regular stop when we ride west on the weekends. Still didn't hear from them on the group chat, though, so I headed home... and literally 3 friggin' blocks from home, I see 'em flash though the intersection 100 yards in front of me.
I chased 'em down and gave 'em the business. Turns out that, since it was just the two of them and it was pretty damn windy (again), they decided to slack off, cut the ride short and stop for some pizza and beer.

You might also be able to get a good deal on a house in Montana when people who bought there to escape COVID realize they hate the harsh winters. I read some articles last year about people buying properties for well over what had been regular market value, sight unseen in some cases.
Would like to visit one day, but in the summer.

Mid to third week of June. Slight chance of iffy weather, but you'll avoid the worst of the crowds and, although it's been getting warmer earlier there (it was 70- in Missoula the other day), you're more likely to have snow on peaks then and far less likely to have to deal with forest fires and their smoke. All but one of my recent trips out of Missoula have started around June 15th. I am home before the 4th of July.
Some popular national parks out west, including Glacier, are expecting such large crowds this year that you have to make a reservation to even get into them. Hikers and bikers are excluded from the reservation requirement.

Still some ****ed up stuff to pull, though. Besides, running someone on a crabon bike off the road is likely to make it assplode, and then what good is it?

I walked to the store, accompanied by the little girl on her balance bike. I was surprised that she wanted to continue on, but I guess that the bitter wind and the occasional snowflake in the eye wasn't going to stop her from getting a loaf of banana chocolate chip bread.

My ride plans on Sunday got cancelled in order to welcome this lovely girl to our family. A friend of my daughter needed to "re-home" her, and we jumped on the opportunity. She's energetic, curious, and needs a lot of work to learn the ways of our house - totally expected. My 10yo beagle-mix is adapting well, and will get past his "grumpy old man" phase soon enough. The feline population is not a fan of this development.

We brought home a new-to-us dog (Jack Russell Terrier) about a month ago...Nine years old, came from a rescue, etc. I think I love "new dog day" even more than "new bike day."

In a related matter, we are planning to come to LA in August to drop my youngest daughter off at college. My other daughter says her roommate has a friend in San Francisco and wonders if they can come along so they can visit. I tried to explain that this is possible but getting from LA to the Bay area and back is a schlepp.

Yeah, but you can do New Bike Day a lot more often.

Now, mind you, my previous New Bike Day was in 2007. In fact, if you average it out, I have a New Bike Day about every 4 years.
Of course, they didn't average out - 1 in 1995, 1 in 1997, 2 in 2007, 3 in 2020/2021.

Conversely, with Greyhounds you need two just to get one normal dog, in terms of activity. Doesn't work that way with buying food and picking up poop, sadly.
