Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Speaking of, how do you like the Tempo?

Actually, those late dinners drive me crazy too. Half the time we just had tapas and called it a day.
No problem with coffee because I drink it strong. We usually ate supper with a couple other couples and I’d make everyone order after-dinner espresso whether they wanted it or not and drink all of the extras.

Wow that was a good ride. Not quite 80 miles. I have found that for the type of riding I do, an ideal long ride is 75-85 miles. Centuries are a few miles into the pain zone.

Did I miss anything while I was out riding?

No. What were you expecting?

You are an animal. At this time in my life, the idea of anything longer than 4 hrs is not a pleasant one. With the return of sailing and starting to do TTs again, I am backing down on the volume and trying to concentrate on quality and polarization, or at least that's what I'm telling myself.

I don’t know how much longer my body will tolerate hard 5+ hour rides but I really enjoy and cherish them, and am hoping to keep going for awhile. The dream is to cut back work to 3 days/week so I can ride 4 long rides/week, weather permitting.

I rode today with one clubmate. She has an S Works Tarmac with Red ETap and disc brakes, deep crabon wheels. It’s a gorgeous bike but prolly costs 5-6K. I would not mind riding one, but mucho dinero.

And here I am, looking to extend my pain-free range.

My ride today was at a pretty decent pace for the time/distance (and the wind we've been having didn't help), and I'm feeling a little wiped. Time to recover.

If I was mowing on the tractor today, I might need my sweatshirt again.

Anyway, this is kind of interesting.

And then I unloaded from the car a 50 lb. bag of dog food and six 30 kilo bags of compost. I can't tell you how good it feels. Well worth a left index finger that doesn't bend.

I use a Stihl. Most of the time it's pretty good, but there have been times where it didn't want to re-start after I turned it off for a few minutes.
