Madone 7 cable adjuster noise

I just bought a 2012 Madone 7, and the inline cable adjuster rattles on rough pavement. Does anyone have a MacGruber hack to silence it? I was thinking maybe an o-ring or a soft foam donut?

That might work. But I'm not sure I'd like the way it would look. I'm such a weenie when it comes to clean lines.

Wrap the adjuster (or the area it rattles against) with some self-fusing silicone tape. It comes in colors, including clear, to match or contrast your bike. You can just use a narrow strip to make a little bumper or two, it should look quite presentable if you do it neatly.

Can you post a picture?

Do it touch the frame or does it rattle when it hangs freely.

Replace it, mine don't rattle.

It's the one with the white housing in this picture

Interesting.... My Emonda has the adjuster inline and not where it enters the frame. Meaning there's a length of cable housing between the frame and adjuster.

The Madone has direct mount brakes, the rear is under the frame behind the BB, so this adjuster also has a quick release lever that allows you to remove the tire. It's not just a standard barrel adjuster.

OK....

The Emonda had Bontrager Speed Stop direct mount brakes, but the release is in the brake caliper.

Did you contact Trek support? It might take a day but they do get back to you. I've had a few questions and they've been helpful. They might send you a replacement adjuster.

I hadn't considered contacting Trek, I assumed they all rattled. Ill give them a holler and see what they say.

oldndslow2 has what looks to me the best solution and the way we set them up. Or any inline adjuster. Try to have a t least an inch of housing on either side of it. Ideally where the loop of cable is fairly straight and isn't tightly pulled with steering. Never right against the frame. Andy
