At the Rutgers cycling classic, ECCC season opener. The circuit race:
I'm toward the left, in the silver and red jersey with green long sleeves. Orange helmet, red bike and bar tape. I'm not why my legs look so funny, I was probably just coming in or out of the saddle. Could have been toward the beginning or the end of the race, I'm not sure - they held us on the (freezing cold) start for over 20 minutes, so I lost all my warm-up; the whole damn race hurt. Probably the finishing "sprint." If I'd known we were going for the line, I would have done better by a few places. Not impressed by the speed of the D's on uphill sprints.

And how was the photographer able to get such a clean shot of me? Was I way off the front? Nope. Slow and alone off the back. At least I finished the race...

Time trials are the devil.
Had a good race sunday too. Was in charge of covering all the breaks in the middle of the race, and ended up on one with two guys from the U23 national team. Damn that hurt! We got pulled back but it was still a fun ride. Due to license fekups at usacycling I had to race the 3 race instead of the p/1/2 (which Tyler Hamilton and the Toyota United team showed up to). Compared to the collegate A's, 3's is a cakewalk. I won the field sprint for 2nd with pretty much no effort. My own fault I guess, I didn't order my new license soon enough so when it showed up with the wrong category I was screwed. I really wanted to race with Hamilton!
The break: *EDIT* sorry photo too big, smaller now!

I was amazed at the show that the group w/ Toyota United, Hamilton and a few others put on. I think only about 15 riders (of the ~30-40 p/1/2 riders) didn't get lapped.

I arrived (to watch, not race) in time to watch just the 3 and p/1/2 races. Based on your kit and height, I THINK I saw you in the 3's going from the back to the front of the peloton on more than one occasion --- nice job. And the guy who won the 3's put out a monster surge right before the last turn of the last lap.

In the 3 race I was in this kit:
The guy that won played the end very smart. I should have gone with him but I was stuck on the inside when he came by. Oh well
The pro/1/2 race was the Freaks of Nature vs. the Mortals at the end there, with those two groups. Only one of my teammates made the final 2 groups (in the 2nd group). Not surprising since we all raced 60 hard minutes about 2 hrs earlier. That would have been such a fun race to be in though...

This is at my first TT in years. The last time I did a TT was 16. I did ok but made two mistakes, could have gotten 15 seconds back. Oh well...first race of the season. I really suffered though, went balls out on the turns. Dangerous stuff but loved it.

Off the front with two laps to go at the Grant's Tomb Crit this past saturday...it hurt bad, real bad. When everyone wants a bunch sprint and you have 120 guys working like dogs to chase you down, you're doomed.

UMD President's Crit. Race #2 for me. Going into the last lap in the W3/4, my pack let 3 women slip away (it was a narrow downhill approach to the last turn and there was nothing I could do about that from my space in the line till after the turn was over). No one seemed concerned about the 6 second gap, so after the turn, I came around and fired the afterburners, making my best Dead Elvis Grin to date. I bridged the gap, unfortunately dragging 2 others with me who would do absolutely no work except to start passing me on the hill while I suffered. I didn't have enough left for a shot at the sprint, but I still managed to get on the W4 podium when they split the results, 8th overall. It was definitely the fastest race I've done yet. I didn't even think I could go that fast. I thought I'd be dropped, but I hung on to the 3s just fine. Encouraging, since I've been working on my upgrade. Wearing the summer kit was fun too...no need to wear the official collegiate kit here.
