Look 585 random observation

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Look 585 random observation

My Look 585 has the word Look written 20 times on the frame (including the spacers on stem) - Perhaps for photo ops?

My Trek 5000 has Trek written twice on the frame.

...again, a random observation

I picked up a Raleigh Competition frame cheap and it has 11 "Raleighs" on it. My Fuji Team issue has only has 9 "Fujis" but it has their www.fuji.com and a stupid slogan that says "simply made better" . They both look like rolling billboards and I`m getting tired of the ad hype. I can`t even enjoy the occasional "slack off and enjoy the scenery ride" or "the bike" makes me feel like a poser.

I think I`d rather ride an old beater thats in a good state of tune. Cause if I win they can`t blame it on the bike and if I loose I don`t have to answer to anyone.

Come on, admit it, you know you like it. Why you bought it in the first place. It'd be nice if Look has an exclamation mark... like "LOOK!"

When I first got into cycling, I thought look frames are weird brand names....why would anyone name something that's meant to be looked at on the road "look"? Beats me.

If it's any consolation, my Kestrel Evoke has the word "evoke" written 18 times. Quite evocative. Join the club.

My Look is the same way--- but it does not have some hideous paint scheme. That counts for something.... full carbon weave.

I have the exact same frame, but I didn't like the decals, nor the stock paint scheme (it was the canary yellow w/ the 3 France colours on the seat tube), so I had a paint shop sand off the top coat and decals and repainted it.

I still get double-takes from all sorts of people on the road, and I get inquiries all the time about what kind of frame it is.

Not to mention the brand name is a command to LOOK at the brand name. Brilliant. But really they should have just named it BUY THIS

Good place to ask this question: What is the difference between the 585, 555 frame other than about a
$1000? Look 2007 catalog has the 555 as a complete bike so I guess it is no longer available as a frameset other than NOS. So is the 585 worth the extra bucks if you're not racing.

585 is an ALL carbon lugged frame with VHM fibers. 555 has HM fibers with some sort of new-ish bonding process. The 555 comes with the HSC-4 fork which is heavier than the HSC-5 that the 585 comes with.

If you want one of the sweetest riding bikes on the planet, get a 585.

Why is it that a Look 585 frame is "only" $2500 while a top on the line Cervelo R3 or Pinerello is north of $3500? Look 585 seems to be a winning design and equally sexy.

I felt left out of the OCP club, so yesterday I acquired this.

May the bike building begin.
