I recently had an experience, learned something new, and thought I'd share it.

I have an Edge 305, and one of the buttons stopped working. Ive had it for a long time, so I wasn't disappointed with the product or it's longevity as some others have been. I looked into getting a 500 but didn't really see anything on the 500 that I felt was an advantage over the 305. So I called Garmin and they have a replacement program. You can send your unit back to them and for the Edge 305 they will send you a refurbished unit with a 90 day warranty for $79. Not a bad deal, for me at least.

I really didn't want to be without my GPS for the 7-10 day turnaround time they quote. So I called back and asked if there was any way they could send me a replacement and upon receipt of the replacement, I'd send in the defective one. The response, "no problem"!!! Instead of billing $79, they bill $158 and send the replacement. Once they receive the defective unit, they credit you back the extra $79.

So I get a refurb 305 with a 90 day warranty and I don't have to ride without my GPS for 7-10 days, for $79, pretty cool.

yeah, I did that same thing when I broke a button on my 3 year old 705. They have excellent customer service.

Alot of companies offer a pre-paid/deposit on warranty replacement. Xbox etc..as long as they get it back, you don't get charged for whatever the cost is.

Great way to handle things IMO and make customers happy.

Or just buy your Garmin through REI. Lifetime replacement policy, no questions asked....
