Thanks guys.
I hope to be back on the bike one day again soon.
My last memory was Blood, Sweat, and Gears when I came across 7th after battling my butt off to stay in the lead group.
Always fight. Never quit. There's always light somewhere. Just look for it.

SUBBYYYY!!!
So good to hear you're doing well.
Glad the girls are great as well. Happy holidays to you and yours!
I'm sure the interior of the house looks FABULOUS. You just gotta get your kiddo's going on the fixing and building train. I'm sure they'd be up for it!

I'm dating around. It's awesome.
My house is in order and I'm like a little fancy interior designer. Buzzing about, picking fabrics and paints and just having a blast doing it.
My daughters love it and we put up a huge tree. A real 9' tree. It's awesome.
I really do have a blessed life.

He might not.
He's got a nerd job and is a bike racing nerd; the app he wrote and is selling is nerd squared and isn't going to make him rich.
The odds of him getting laid, let alone finding a long term relationship is speculative at best. Don't be afraid to short that stock.
Of course, there's always this:
FWIW, I've been married for 27 years. My wife is awesome. But I'm not disputing the premise.

It's a little bit of a weird ride. If you stay at the front, though, it's fine. There will be some pros / former pros on the nose. In the back, you barely have to pedal the draft is so big, but it's SKETCH-BALL! There can be up to several hundred riders, so abilities vary wildly.
It's basically like riding any masters race. Stay at the front and have fun. If you drift back, then you just have to move up. People play some stupid centerline games to move up and that never really impresses me.
The better part of the ride is after the Dana Point stop. 1/2 the group will turn back towards Long Beach (in small groups) and 1/2 will cut inland. The inland group is the 'real' ride. There will be a couple places where the speeds are high, but generally it's more controlled and a little more sane/fun. You might actually get the chance to talk to someone once you turn inland.

Good to hear such a great update for you Sub. See you on here soon.
Remember, the hard part is not the ride, it's getting on your bike. Get. On. Your. Bike. No need to think about training or racing, just get rolling again if you're feeling the urge.

I had to sell both bikes and everything with them. I was down to practically nothing.
My ex did a number on our finances. I lost both cars and almost my home. Honestly, I was at a point where I had to take me and the girls to my brothers place for a while to live. But I kept digging and staying on top of things. I'm not out of the water by any stretch, but my head is above the surface and I can tread a lot easier. Both my girls smile. They text me randomly to tell me they love me. That's when I know I'm doing right. That's what keeps me going.
So, when it's time to "ride" again, I'll have to get a cheap beater and just start pedaling. I'm actually looking forward to it. No pressure. Just enjoyment.

It's a 2013 Nissan with all the bluetoothy stuff and computer screen and all that. It's so slick I almost wet myself when I drove it off the lot.
Ok ... I did wet myself. But the guys at the dealership took it back and washed it again.

Awesome Sub! That's so good to hear!
I hear you about the kids. I have gained a new found respect for my oldest boy. He is stepping up like no one else in this situation. He's hanging out with me, always making sure I'm ok and helping with the dishes and cooking. All stuff that he never did before or had to be told to do. This will bring us closer together for sure!
Had an interesting one tonight, after the lawyer...Which BTW went ok, as expected. It's all up to the Ex and whether she stands by her word to be fair. I stopped by our local cycling cafe for a beverage and to see who was about. As I'm sitting there, who walks in but my wife's therapist. We know each other so we start chatting. He's selling his condo and buying a house. As we're chatting I look over my shoulder and in walks the ex-wife. We exchange pleasantries, she sits at the table with them and he finishes what he was saying. I step back, say my goodbyes, tell her to have fun tonight...She's going to see a local indie band later.. I head home, shaking my head going WTF...
Honestly it was weird, I really felt nothing. No anger, no sorrow, just WTF...
I'm sure there are going to be many more of these encounters since Dundas is a small town area and the cycling community is pretty tight. Not to mention the fact we race for the same team.

Never done the PCH ride, heard it's a big peloton hauling ass. Cleave could fill you in on it, I think.
Done the Mt Wilson ride 14 times. Can be very cold, or windy, or nice. Sometimes there is too much ice/snow to go to Skyline Park. Sometimes pros will show up, sometimes knuckleheads will have personal sag blocking traffic.

However, the speed is amazing for a ride on regular streets. Long Beach to Laguna Beach is about 25 miles and it takes less than an hour. I understands the entire ride is less than 4 hours, even though part of the inland route is on a bike path along a flood control channel.
I keep thinking of trying the ride again (just to Dana Point or less), but I haven't convinced myself that it would be fun prior to the turnaround.

2014 Rule changes are posted. Nothing very exceptional this year, though their tightening of one-day licensing is kinda nice. I remember seeing some folks with expired Cat-3 and up licenses picking up one-days and sandbagging the 5's, or doing the same and dragging around a 5 teammate.

He was an idiot though. I would have pulled off into the bushes at least twice, flown by the guys and yelled "grab that wheel!" then tipped over 2 feet from the finish line and laughed my ass off.
Hey Subby, glad to here life got better. I'll let P-trick know.

Well 20 hours post op and I feel pretty darn good. Percocet certainly helping.
