Addiction LXXVIII

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Running straps without a twist under the pedal is the worst.

I've never used a watch to monitor my sleep but I'm very curious since I'm taking a multivitamin but still wake up tired every morning and LoP does too. I briefly wore a fairly cheap FitBit knock-off but that was before I was on blood-pressure medication and I was reaching the cardio range during family disputes on holidays. What kind are you wearing and was it crazy expensive?

So jelly. I've never had that kind of relationship with a cat. Dogs? Yes, but my cats have always preferred whichever old lady was in the house and they've all loved my dad.

Apple watch. I don’t know which program it’s running that decides to buzz my wrist when my HR goes below 40 for > 10’.

Anyway, I’ve been all checked out by my cardiologist and he says I’m fine.

Regarding the earlier discussion about step-through bikes, I have seen men who had balance issues that made it hard to stand on one foot or joint issues that made it difficult to swing their leg over and they still insisted they didn't want a "girl's bike". Clearly, there is no dignity issue in some other countries because the son in the movie "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" - highly recommended by the way - has a step-through bike. Not sure if it was cheaper but it seems a lot more convenient since he makes many stops to buy fish and vegetables and has to carry them all on the bike.

Always good when the cardiologist says you're fine. Mine was much happier after I'd been on the BP meds for a month. I think I scared him the first time cuz he was in a big hurry to write the prescription. I wonder if the yoga I'm doing this semester is also helping.

I do what I can to disabuse folks of the notion that step-thru bikes are girls' bikes. Quite a few happy male customers are still riding because I put them on a step-thru bike.

If you're really waking up tired, you might consider talking to someone about the possibility of sleep apnea.

Of course that’s fine in a cyclist. See if you can change the parameter from <40 to <30.

Yes. The overwhelming number of people wore masks. We had a police escort for the open road portion. The rest was on a four lane road that has been closed to cars since restrictions took effect. Plenty of room to spread out.

We have NICA around here too. One of our summer kids, at the shop, is a NICA racer.

That's what I told my family doctor when she wanted me to go to the cardiologist. I relented when she pointed out that I hadn't seen him for 4 years and I do have this niggly benign arrhythmia, whatever the Hell that is.
