How's everyone doing with the heat?

Past two days, I've been done outside by 10:00am. I moved to WA to get away from this type weather.

I left San Angelo, Texas to get out of this kind of heat. My brother in Houston txted me earlier to point out it's only 90F in San Angelo today. The only positive to that story is, we'll be back to reasonable temperatures soon enough, and San Angelo is just ramping up.

Portland power grid has held out so far, I have A/C, and it's working. Tomorrow's ride home from work is going to suck.

I moved to New England, for varying reasons, but despite our (moderate) humidity, I never missed the waves of heat that would scorch the Wilamette Valley every few years. But I never envisioned it would be like this. I hope everyone stays safe.

Well, I survived.

Friday I helped Mom and her neighbors with hay (plus 32 mile RT by bicycle). Whew... I'm getting too old for that. It wasn't too bad except for one load in the early evening when it must have been in the upper 90's.

Today, no cycling, but I went outside a bit between 4:00 and 5:00. I saw 107° on my thermometer.

My cats have been a bit stir crazy. They wanted out this morning. It was still cool enough, but I didn't want to have to retrieve them if they didn't come in when it warmed up.

I'm not a big fan of AC. I got some fans in the windows to cool down the house by this morning when it got down to about 70°F. And, now moved a fan so it on me. Hopefully it will be down into the upper 60's tomorrow morning, and so easier to cool the house (after midnight), and cooler midday.

My brother said he had 113° today, and a forecast of 116° tomorrow (Eastern WA).

Asthma kitty was grounded for several hours in the bedroom where we have air conditioning. She's out now by the garden door.

I've been swimming a lot. After visiting the North Cascades, the lake here feels like bath water. Still very refreshing.

Very easy to get a sunburn, I've been wearing high UPF hiking clothes.

Got a quick ride (<20miles) on both saturday and sunday early morning. Went to greenlake for a quick dip in the late morning. Then my family has been home most of the time starting mid afternoon till evening. Today working in the heated house without AC has been a challenge. and no bike ride today (monday).

Going a little stir crazy. 86° at 8am... but ONLY forecasting 109° today so we're cooling down.

A/C still down since Monday afternoon, but i don't think it's been over 90 since. Cool nights, fortunately. I've replaced a blown fuse in the outdoor unit, now waiting for a capacitor. If that's not it, I'm afraid it's the compressor. HVAC guys in Portland are booked for weeks.

It hit 109 one day here northeast of Cle Elum in WA. But I got up really early a couple days last week and went up into the Teanaway for nice cool rides. Hunkered down the rest of the day. Pretty nice now, high's only getting into the lower 80's with beautifully cool mornings. I rode the Teanaway this morning, dodged some cows on the road and a loose pig!

Well, that's why this thread is in the "Pacific Northwest" region.

Today, I cut some new bamboo starts and planted them on the east side of the house hoping to block some heat from our big dining room window. The YouTube vids said I should wait until fall to plant, but I'm impatient. I'll try to keep them watered. Don't even know if I did it correctly, but we'll see you in a month or two. If you have any advice, please ... um ... advise..

At the house here in Seattle, we have a few species of bamboo already. I'm not sure how to tell one from another except by thickness. I tried to plant some of the thickest stuff we have. This is the first for me. Fingers crossed.

My AC is working like a champ since I replaced the capacitor. I'm hoping it never gets stressed like that again.

We had to replace a workhorse Whirlpool from the 70s. I think the thing was actually made in the US! It died the hottest day when it reached 115° here in Salem. Actually, it made it through the day, but gave up the ghost that evening, when temps outside dropped considerably, but indoors the heat was still trapped.
