Following the trend, Hello from SF Bay Area!

Hello Bike Forumers.

Long-time lurker, rare poster, life-long bike enthusiast here.

An SF native that's lived as far West as Hawaii, & as far East as St. Thomas. Mostly been a NorCal kid: SF, (in no particular order) North Bay, East Bay, Peninsula, Santa Rosa, Russian River, Salinas/Monterey, Davis/Sac., now residing in Fremont.

Learned riding in the Haight near GG Park as a kid & have always had a bike(s) in my life ever since. Was transportation & freedom as a kid & then became a team thing in high school as we started a road team at Redwood High in Larkspur. Got my first "real" bike in 1984, a Bianchi Campione d'Italia. Was supposed to be a lower model gift from Mom, but as I already had a couple of jobs, I went behind & supplemented for the nicer ride & couldn't have been happier. That frameset was stolen from my truck while I was preparing for a repaint, but several of the parts are still on my mid-'90s Bianchi EL OS including seatpost, front & rear derailleurs, shifters, etc.

As with several people I'm seeing here, got distracted with motorcycles (2-stroke road bikes), crashed some years into it in 1990 (no memory), and got back onto the ever-familiar bike for a bit of rehab (a LOT really). Never been on a motorcycle since (some things you just have to do for your mama), but have certainly loved all that time with bikes. I don't have a type or much preference or brand loyalty. I ride what I come across & what makes me happy. I've only ever bought a few actual new bicycles & up until purchasing a 'cross bike, never rode a road-style from that didn't have downtube shifters or rim brakes. I'm not a wool sock & jersey curmudgeon, just never had a need for more than what I knew or enjoyed.

I have an eclectic mix of bikes that range from an early 90's Boss bmx, balloon 1954 Schwinn American (non-original 3 speed read wheel), '68 Schwinn Racer 3-speed, 1990 Titan Half Track MTB in steel (torn apart to strip paint & redo),1992-3-4? Bianchi EL OS (a seconds racing bike for Dirk De Mol), 1999 Free Agent Team Limo bmx, a 2010s Pure Fix fixed gear (torn apart cause I want to repaint) but built with a bunch of vintage Campy I had around, my newest bike, a 2019 Vitus Energie CRX cross bike. I recently acquired a mid-90s Virginia road bike I need to get some assistance finding out more info on, & an early 2000s Fondriest Top Lite, full Campy Record 8-speed & Chorus 9-speed respectively. First time I've tried riding with these types of shifters & it's a 1/2-way point between the downtube shifters & my SRAM Force 1 1X setup. Works super well, they're absolutely beautiful, but just a little clunky to get used to for the thumb lever portion.

So, I love bike for the love of bikes, have too many for anyone who's not a bike lover to understand and ride them all whenever the mood suits.

I look forward to being active in the BF community now & to learn & hopefully give back.

Fin!

Eclectic is right, that's quite the collection you have. Variety is the spice of life right? Makes me want to get an old beach cruiser too.

Welcome from another newbie in the north bay.

Howdy, 10 Wheels Fred. Thanks for the first "hello". Not really great riding weather for you right now, huh?

Hello, Barry2 . I have a feeling there's a few of us here. Nice eclectic selection.

Hey. caloso. Was up there a couple a few times in the last couple of months. Man, your goatheads sucked for my tires! Had a good time though

Pantah, nice to meet a similar, local motorcycle-injury recovery bicyclist here. Ah, those knees, Nice stash of rides.

frogman, we got to get a truthfully realistic perspective from wherever we can
