Bad Lag

My gloves wore out and had to be replaced. I ordered a pair thru Amazon but the padding is wrong - more of a weight lifting glove than a cycling glove.

Which do you use? Yes, they have to be C&V, so leather with a cotton mesh back. What's good?

Giro Hoxton SF - no padding as I use padded bar tape. One of the most comfortable pair of gloves I have worn so far. So good I bought an extra pair.

I got Planet Bike Taurus gloves in January. They exceed my expectations. They're the best gloves I've had in a long time, and I like the classic design. Very comfy. I normally wear size XL, so I got that size, and they fit well.

Only $20 at Amazon.

I saw these "Thousand" at The Bicycle Stand in Long Beach CA but I didn't want to try them on because....
they looked great and not lots of $. Many more choices it seems than 4 or 5 years ago for the classic crochet gloves.

Timely topic! I am on the hunt for gloves too, but not just cycling but for driving. I got into the habit of wearing gloves while driving the truck. Unfortunately I am having trouble finding gloves that last and have good “Stiction”!

I like these, and they are not too bad for cycling, they seem glaze over and loose their stiction from letting the wheel spin and the pad on the heel comes off fast from palming the wheel. Padding isn’t as important as grip.

I like the ATD gel-padded gloves for the classic look when I want that. Very cushy.



But my workhorses are the Giro LX leathers - pricey, but man do they last forever, feel and look great:

I use the Aerotechs that Pilotfishbob uses. Note that they do run a little large so I buy one size smaller than is indicated by their website.

For folks who don't wear gloves, you do realize that they are a safety device, right? They prevent you from destroying the nerves and other critical parts in your hand if you fall and hit the road palm down.

That's what I use too. Great gloves and they don't even look stupid. My favorite and I'm on my 3rd pair. Or is it 4th.

Unfortunately, they are no longer made. I have no idea what's next after my current gloves wear out.

I've been eyeing those up for a while.
I got a set of NOS Paramount gloves around 6 years ago or so- I've worn them through at the base of the fingers- but I keep wearing them because... Paramount.


My favorite gloves were I think called "Push." They were dirt cheap- I still wear them, bu the stitching is going, hence me looking at the Taurus gloves mentioned above.

I wear a ten year old pair of Castelli Rosso Corsas, and I need to replace them soon... I can't imagine how much sweat and snot I've wiped on them. I do love the Castelli stuff. When I get fully kitted out I'm usually wearing more money than the price of whatever vintage bike I'm rolling around on. Ha, ha!

I wear full finger gloves, old mountain bike habit, protects your fingers better if you go down.

For summer I wear some SmartWool stretchy wool gloves, thin material, not hot. I went down a couple years ago, separated my shoulder, tore big holes in the gloves, I still wear them, holy and all.

I have some lightweight Castelli gloves for shoulder season, and for nasty rain some Castelli neoprene gloves.

I guess none of these are particularly C&V. For Eroica I’d probably get some thin leather gloves, almost like dress gloves.

I used to wear padded gloves -- old school leather/knit and newer gel padded Garneau -- but those kinda bother me now. I've switched to padded bar tape so the gloves are almost superfluous.

But I do usually wear unpadded Giro Zero CS half gloves, so minimal they're barely there. They just add a bit of grip when my hands are really sweaty, and a bit of protection from road rash.

Or full finger Bontrager RXL Thermal -- a great glove for spring and autumn rides that vary from chilly to warm. No longer made but worth seeking out for old stock. Best soft gloves I've tried -- I prefer them over Pearl Izumi's similar gloves. My fingers and thumbs are longer than usual and it's hard to find full finger gloves that don't cramp the ends of my thumbs and pinkies. I can wear large but then there's a bit of slop that's annoying on bike rides.

I'm all about the brown polyester gardening gloves, $1 a pair, from the dollar store. For cycling, splitting & stacking firewood, and y'know, gardening.

I suppose if I wanted them to look feel more like cycling gloves I could cut the fingertips off; but they wear through pretty quickly anyway.
