Steer tube extensions and compression question

Steer tube extensions and compression question
I installed a steer tube extender on one of my bikes to obtain a more upright position. The original compression assembly is quite short and only reaches part way down the extension. Doesn’t it need to reach down to the primary steer tube to have any effect ?

The compression assembly has to extend down into the fork's steerer in order to become attached.

What's the original compression assembly? Quill stem? Compression plug (as often found in a carbon steerer with threadless stem)? Star nut? You have enough posts to be allowed to post a photo. Otherwise your question is lacking data for me to offer advice. Andy

The "compression mechanism"? You mean bolt? Not long enough to engage?
The riser should have come with a longer bolt included, though some come with a shorter bolt at the bottom of a long hole that you will need a wrench extension to reach.

My steer tube extenders all came with a long bolt that extended down to the preload hardware (star nut or expansion plug) which was in it's proper place inside the steer tube itself.

Is this fork for threaded or non-threaded headsets? Does this extender clamp to the inside or the outside of the steerer tube? Or do you know?
