I actually don't have any photos since i'd feel sketchy taking them at the shop. I'm guessing it is a late 80's, early 90s bicycle because the head tube sticker/badge is the "P" seen in the photograph of ZeRinger's 1988 bike on page 1. The frame's color is white starting at the headtube fading to silver while the fork is blue with the bottom quarter chromed. Nothing even came close in the catalogs. It had forged drop outs i believe with water bottle bosses and cable guides on the top of the top tube. I suppose that a lot did get changed around since it had risers and a Simplex rear derailleur. Oh and it was of CrMo steel however i did not catch the manufacturer and I have also not seen any similar steel decals. Any direction/ideas/thoughts on price would be very appreciated!

See post #21 this thread, by ZeRinger. Is this the same bike?
If so, what's up?

No, the bike at the LBS is pretty much decal-less. nothing on the main three tubes. Just that head tube sticker but it is black and something along the lines of Panasonic USA on the chain stay.

Sounds a bit like the frame might be a 1987 DX-5000 based upon the white to silver fade. I'm guessing the fork isn't original.

Could it have been repainted?

I've got an 87' DX-6000 frame I'm building up. Not to stock, but, it will be in taste for the period, cept' for the wheels.

That was what i was suspecting. The fork did seem out of place. I'll have to check it out again. Thanks for the help!

Hey all you Panasonic mavens,

I have what was sold to me as an '88 DX3000, frame only, but I really can't tell if it is, the seller had powdercoated it in baby blue and it has no decals. It's really in great condition, but other than the Serial number, I can't tell if it's a DX3000 or not. I thought I had pics of it, but I don't. I'll get some later and post. Is there any way to tell by the serial number, or lugs, or dropouts, or anything that tells me this is even a Panasonic, much less a DX3000? I have seen some pics of the DX3000 on the Picasa site, and there are similarities, one of which is the seat clamp. The only extra part on the bike is an Ultegra headset, which may or may not be the original. I will get pics and the S/N and repost. Thanks!

UPDATE: S/N is on bottom of headtube, 7C01598

Not a Panasonic proper, but I acquired an '84 Schwinn Voyageur with Tange Champion #2 frame and fork which was built by Panasonic if I understand correctly. It is a very good touring frame with double eyelets and cantilever brakes. I took apart to regrease bearings and had to replace the headset. I hope to get it put back together in the next month, as good as new or perhaps better than new with Nitto technomic stem and 45 cm Nitto rando bars.

Speaking of a Sport LX

Here's a '85 Sport LX that I picked up two days ago from the online auction...(thank you wrk101 for the heads up.) I know it's only a low level Pansonic...but, after two small rides, I am really impressed with it...fairly light, very responsive. Very happy with it...

Not sure what I did to deserve the "gentleman" comment but thanks cb400bill. ;-)

Also, the URL to remember is https://panasonicbikemuseum.info rather than the panabike.s-cars.org as the site will be getting its own home soon rather than using URL forwarding.

Cheers,

I think that anyone who spent a lot of time to build a website like that, and makes it available to the general public, can be considered a gentleman.

At least until proven otherwise.

That looks like a 1985 to me... Adriatic Blue. Also looks to be in REALLY nice condition. Nice find.

Ha! Well thanks. ;-)

I am also happy to announce that someone emailed me with a 1988 catalog that they are going to send me for scanning. It will be very nice to get it scanned and online as it is the only year missing from the eighties catalogs on the site.

o hai.

i have this one, snagged the frame from a guy for $40 a couple of years back, currently snatching up old DA 7400/7401 parts for it.. im kinda planning on "color-weenieing" the wheels, tires, seat and maybe do a little color tweak to the components. i dunno, i really want to accentuate the paint on this thing though.

here it is as it sat for the past few years, haunting me.

another pic with some parts, cleaned er up a bit

i also picked up some calipers, hubs, a used crankset, and shift levers.

7401 levers are on the way. anyone know where i can find some white hoods for them things?

i was kinda hoping to go NOS for most of the stuff, but i want to ride the thing this spring/summer so im kinda grabby about it.

take it easy.

Cool looking bike. I would suggest posting your request in the "Want To Buy/In Search Of" thread.

I passed on a pink and white Team Europe with full Super Record last week at $550. I can still reach the owner. What do you think of that price?

Not sure if you're in the states or not, but Team Europes of any vintage are quite uncommon here, potentially even rare. If it's in good condition and your size, I'd say it's a good deal.
