Identify vintage Trek frame?
Hi all!
Would anyone familiar with Trek frames be able to identify the year and model in the below link?
https://vancouver.craigslist.org/rds...374318447.html
I've been hunting for a nice steel frame for some time!
Thanks!

Not sure of model other than probably around 1986-1988 but I can almost guarantee it’s not a $200 frame. You can get a full vintage trek for that much in better condition.
If it’s just a frame you’re looking for, check the classic and vintage sales section here.

With fastback seat stays lug and true temper tubing...
... it makes this frame either a very late 80s or early 90s Trek.

Investment cast one-piece head tube, seat lug, and dropouts with bulge-formed BB shell puts it at mid-80s. Later production would have used an investment cast shell with integrated chainstay bridge. True Temper tubing suggests 5nn series frame. If you can get a serial number, you can check it against the list on vintage-trek.com

He would have to give me $199 to take that turd off his hands. OP - I have a MUCH nicer Trek frameset about that size that I'd sell you much cheaper.

That is hardly a turd. It needs restoration and the price might be on the high side, but there are very few chromoly framesets made today that are as good. It's a diamond in the rough, not a turd. If there are no dents or rust, it might very well be worth $199 to someone that's been looking for something like this.

I would say '85 possibly a 470 based on color and True Temper tubing, I would say maybe $75-100, but pandemic prices are nuts and all over the place ( I would not pay 200 for it...)

You say you've been looking for a nice steel frame for some time, so that factors into whether the price is too high. As you've learned, nice ones don't come up for sale all that often, especially if this is your size. You might be able to negotiate a better price, but ask yourself if this will be "the one that got away" just to save a few bucks.
The price of professional stripping (sandblasting) and powder coat or paint should be around $150-200, so factor that into your decision (and negotiations). Dents would be a dealbreaker though so check carefully. It could become a very, very nice bicycle.
It's special just by virtue of it being a handbuilt, low-temperature brazed Trek frame built in Wisconsin. You almost can't buy something that high quality these days. Someone needs to save it.

It's Vancouver so a) It's Canadian dollars b) We like pricing things high
Even at the coop prices have been getting higher due to the demand.
OTOH you can still get whole bikes at around $200 if you are patient.

I am a super fan of the mid to late 80s Trek's with true temper, but this is super high. My 89 660 was this price as a complete bike and in very solid cosmetic condition.
Be patient, and something else either in better shape or complete will come your way.

also there's a Maruishi Pursuit for $200CAD on facebook. It's out in Langley though. Seems to be tange 900/infinity + mangaloy 2001 forks. About this size frame. Golden arrow rd/fd.
and it looks like he also has a kuwahara caravan (later model unicrown) for $220cad.

Assuming the decals and the head tube are original (and the red paint is showing in spots)
1985 Trek 460.
1985 was the only year with the USA decal on that spot on the seat tube. 1985 was the last year for that head badge- 1986/87 had a smaller head badge.
Dropouts don't have fender/rack mounts-
The only True Temper racing frame in 1985 was the 460.

Lower mid range Trek frame in need of a refinish @ $199 bucks = TURD. Unless you have some sentimental attachment, MOVE ON. It's nothing special.
Here local, in the states, that would be, AT BEST, a $50 dollar frame if the paint were the least bit presentable. Bad paint=low money.

#cb400bill, do you think you can do a blowup of the under-BB view? If we can see the SNR we can at least confirm what it is and how old it is.

Sub $50 frame in that condition, no amount of "variants" is going to make it worth more.
