I have a 27.5 GT Outpost Expert want to upgrade chain and rear derailleur from Acera to?

What chain (size, links, roller?) and RD (possibly Deore what model?) would the group suggest?

What is your goal here? That is a very low initial cost bike so I wouldn't really put much money towards it. The current bike shows a Tourney derailleur and a bike with Tourney is not a bike worth putting money into beyond basic repairs. The money is better spent on a bike that works better. The suspension fork is a cheap coil fork that isn't even 100mm of travel it is very vintage-esque but way less quality and that is the most important thing on a mountain bike really.

I would just stick with what you have (in a new Acera RD and hanger) and again save the money towards a bike that does what you want. Alivio or Deore is going to be a bit better but in this case you have to look at the whole bike holistically. In some cases you can get say a nice carbon frame similar to the higher end stuff with cheap components then I would say OK maybe a good candidate or say it has a decent air shock like a Rockshox Judy Gold or a Fox Performance or similar decent quality fork then yeah probably a good candidate but if the other parts really do match the derailleur I would enjoy the heck out of it run that sucker into the ground and take that money you aren't putting into it and start a fund for yourself (personal not a crowdfunding hullabaloo) and get yourself a copy of Mountain Bike Action or similar or not and put that dream bike up on the wall and save towards it (or a lower spec version of it) and then enjoy it when you have the money.
