Anyone here a regular on the Towpath? I'm usually between Akron and Rockside...

Not a regular, but we rode it about 2 years ago and loved it. It's a beautiful ride. We rode downstream from Botzum to the CEC and then took the train back, taking advantage of the "Bike Aboard" pricing.

Bike Aboard is a fantastic program. It's been suspended all year due to Covid, but I hope it returns next year.

Is this the same towpath that goes through Barberton, Canal Fulton, and Massillon? If so, I've ridden that plenty of times in the past, but it's nowhere near me now. I loved getting on the towpath daily. Many times, Ernie's in Massillon was a great resting point. The social aspect of cycling in that area was superb.
It was a much easier ride than the hills and wind I deal with now. LOL

Have you been up to the newer section north of Steelyards yet. They are working on the bridge over Literary in Tremont right now, but it is clear pedaling up to there. The overlook at Literary is nice with cool benches made from railcar wheels.

I have not yet been there, but hope to check it out before the snow flies. Truth be told, I've never ridden it north of Harvard.

The paved trail along Harvard and Jennings up to the Steelyards section of trail is very recent. From the past year, so Harvard was the natural stopping point for many people.

Look forward to riding it.
I have ridden the Cleveland Lakefront Bikeway or whatever it's called, the one that runs west of 25th toward Edgewater.

I'm hoping to get this ride in again this year with Mrs. Altair.

Just rode from Rockside north to Tremont a few days ago. The train station was packed - the popularity continues!

Hi. I did the Bike Aboard today for the first time. Got on at Rockside, exited at Botzum and rode back. Another bicyclist was very helpful. It wasn't too busy on the train nor trail, given a Thursday afternoon, but I imagine nice weekends will be very crowded.
Next time I'll likely go on to Akron North. I thought about it this time, but I've never been south of the Blimp City shop and don't know there are any navigational hurdles in Akron.
How about a photo from the train and one from ride's end?

That is one of my favorite stretches to ride, though some of that paved section just north of Station Road is rather annoying.
Other than finding the trail when you first get off the train at Akron Northside, there are no navigation challenges getting back to Rockside. Really a nice trip other than a half mile stinky section.

I find myself ending up in Akron later this month. I was thinking of riding the Cuyahoga Valley again and taking the Bike Aboard train back to my car, but the website says that the train isn't running due to erosion by the tracks.
When did this occur? Any word on when it will be repaired and up & running again? Any info would be appreciated!

Still, I've been able to ride the trail (without the train) a few times this year, and they've been fantastic. I was in Akron and Peninsula twice in the last month. Each time I had around 90 minutes to two hours for a ride, so I went north for half the time and turned around.
Edit: Here's a short video clip alongside the river in Peninsula from the last ride there: https://i.imgur.com/q1FoT1w.mp4

I usually park at Botzum and ride downstream and catch the train back. I figure I'll park farther north and ride upstream while I'm fresh and the morning is cool. Any idea what the crowds are like at say, 7:30 AM, on a Saturday? What section do you consider the most scenic/interesting? I figure I have two to three hours for the ride, if things work out for me.

Curious about the claim of erosion near the tracks (I see it on their website, too). The CVSR was running fully loaded with passengers just yesterday. So if it's safe for passengers I'm not sure why it wouldn't be safe for a bicycle car...

I'm curious about that, too. I wondered if a different route is an option, but maybe not. Maybe it's more that the extra cars (at least one for bikes and kayaks and another for people) and number of trips being reduced is safer? I imagine the amount they earn from the scenic trips is important to keep existing.

The CVSR website updated today!
Bike Aboard is part of their Explorer program. The website says it will restart on Wednesday, July 20. CVSR Bike Aboard
I think this is going to work out for me.

Erosion Update: Earlier this week, the CVSR website reported that erosion was again a problem and that some track was closed. The Explorer program that includes "Bike Aboard" is discontinued for the remainder of this season.

March 2023 Update - Erosion remains a problem. Here's a posting from the CVSR:
PENINSULA, Ohio – Beginning today, March 3, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) is suspending its modified train operations and spring
activities in the park. Ongoing geotechnical soil monitoring in recent weeks identified increasing erosion along the 26-mile scenic and
educational railway in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The tracks, originally built in 1880 for the Valley Railway, are used for scenic and
educational rides through Cuyahoga Valley and do not operate for commercial train service.
