Oyama CX16D

Bike will be delivered tomorrow. It's a 20" wheeled folder, disc brakes, Shimano Altius, 16 speed, has Schwalbe Big Apple 20X2.0 tires stock. Solid deal for $407.29 shipped and delivered. I'll post a few pictures after it gets a little ride or so. I needed a decently geared bike for some hilly areas I plan to do exercise rides through. I can't always rely on battery assistance to get me to my destination. Especially if I ever plan on being able to breathe again after covid.

Battery assistance? I didn't see that this is an ebike.

It's not an ebike. I was stating the fact that I need a bike that's got sufficient gearing for hilly terrain that's NOT battery assisted. If it wasn't offered to me at such a low price I'd have passed. And if I decide not to keep it I know exactly who'll receive it as a gift. This even has tektro brakes, so I'm happy with the low end, but decent, specs. It's also easily upgradeable.

Looks good so far, but I'll have to see it in person to make an assessment.

You're going to love those tires if you're not already familiar with them.

After you get the bicycle, can you confirm whether a threadless Dahon-style handlepost, w/one-bolt that secures the clamp to the steerer-tube, would work with it?

I can't confirm, unfortunately, as I'm not in possession of an alternative handlepost at the moment. As for the Schwalbe Big Apple tires,...I have had multiple bikes with them on (usually aftermarket). They're pretty much my favorite, along with Schwalbe Big Ben's. Great tires.

A few pics. So far the bike is pretty lightweight, solid, and seems quite decently built. No handlepost flex either. A few items need swapping, but I'll figure out what to do next week, after I ride it a few times. This will be my OFFICIAL exercise bike. The only real issues I've seen with the bike are a scratched quick release on the front wheel (it punctured the thin-ish box), and my magnet to keep the bike held together when folded is actually broken (where to find a replacement???). Really, minor annoyances IMO.

I'll pick up an extra magnet-assembly for you. In the meantime, can you remove the handlepost of the new bicycle and then measure, for me, the amount of steerer-tube that the handlepost clamps onto?

I'm going to swap a Dahon handlepost after the weekend (donor bike - Dahon Speed P8), so I'll keep you posted, with a pic or 2. I'm heading to upstate NY to see my older brother. He started chemo on Wednesday. And I'd definitely appreciate the magnet.

Seems to be a clone - or perhaps homage - of the Dahon Mu design.

Yes, very strange.

Tell me about it. It's a solid feeling bike though. Maybe it's for rigidity?

This company has actually been around awhile, and this frame design is used by numerous companies. The "clone" comment is hilarious, but irrelevant in my thread, as I didn't say anything of the sort, and I didn't ask a question about it. Please keep that discussion in it's thread.

Just guessing here: Oyama used a less strong aluminum alloy and/or a welding process that wasn't as strong for price point reasons vs. the Dahon original design. At some point along the reverse engineering-consumer experience timeline, they realized they needed to add the rear fork (chainstay) braces.

See the Dahon (unbraced) design undergoing stress testing here:

I just took an 8 mile ride on this baby, with almost constant ocean headwinds, and she was an absolute pleasure to ride. Stiff, responsive, actually geared nicely for my needs. I'm definitely quite impressed with this little gem. And the 70 psi Schwalbe Big Apple tires were so wonderful on the bumps, cracks, and potholes I encountered by the bay. She's a definite keeper.
