That was such an epic TDF. I can still remember where I was watching it on TV and where I was. The back and forth between Lemond and Fignon was great drama, with the final stage being the icing on the cake.
His book back in the day was very good about maintenance, fitting and technique, all of which I still ride with today.

Fascinating read on that award, he’s rubbing shoulders with some impressive recipients - and deservedly so! I was a young rider when he won his second TdF. He was and still is my top cycling hero.

We will be looking for that one. Following bike racing has become a regular part of our lives for my wife and me, and to a lesser degree our daughters. Which is odd as we're not people who really follow any sports otherwise. A couple of years ago I got fed up with NBCSports' pathetic attention to bike racing and signed up for GCN+, which (with an assist from a VPN) allows you to watch all their coverage of races big and small, and a huge lineup of other stuff: racing news, tech videos, documentaries on racing history, touring and 'slow cycling' through cool places, just about anything you could want to watch.
A couple of nights ago we watched this amazing 45min documentary about the incredibly harsh stage of the 1988 Giro d'Italia, which resulted in Andy Hampsten gaining a lead in the GC though he didn't win the stage, and ultimately winning the race.
It's beyond cool that today's video tech and methods allow very slick production of pieces like this which are for such a niche audience...and that there's a place where we can see them.
