Correct (enough) pedals for 1983 Gitane Pro?

I'm finishing up the (slow) build of my 1983 Gitane Pro Replica.
Down to building up my wheelset for it (GL330 rims with Spidel/Maillard 700 LF hubs) and choosing between Spidel 700 quill pedals or Spidel/Maillard CXC 700 aero pedals.
I really prefer the CXC 700 aero style pedals on the bike as it seems to be built to a slightly better finish than the quill pedals.
I'd like to make the bike as historically correct enough as possible so I'm thinking that the aero pedals might have been used by the Gitane team in 84, not 83, so maybe I should just stay with the quills? Could the CXC 700 aero pedals have existed on the team bikes as early as 83??
I do remember seeing a pic of either Lemond or fignon getting ready to start on a TDF time trial platform using the CXC aero pedals, but I don't remember what year TDF it was.
This (Spidel/Maillard 700 quill)?

Or this (Spidel/Maillard CXC 700 aero)?

I have used both, prefer the CXC, but I *always* prefer platforms to cages...

Yup!, the CXC aero pedals just looks so much better than their quill ones.
I might change the back plate on it though, as it has Bernard Hinault's name on it. The black version of the plates just says "Maillard CXC" on it. I have spare black plates somewhere in my stash.
I'm building up the bike to be more of a Lemond or Fignon replica.
I did the back plate change on CXC I had in another bike, my Peugeot PY10FC.
It would have been sacrilege to have pedals with Hinault's name on it.
Just not really a fan of Hinault, anyway.....

I always liked "The Great" Hinault, he did have an odd way of helping Lemond win the tour though.
